"We could ask ourselves, “Why do women kill?” But I think we might as well ask, “Why does anyone kill?” And that’s a subject for a longer and more sobering book than this one."
Adding this to my favorite shelf.
This book is self-aware and reads like a conversation, a podcast. It's very accessible and, at times, I found myself to become emotional at the scenes portrayed. It takes a lot to not feel moved by such heavy topics and heinous crimes. The tone remains respectable even through lighthearted moments. It doesn't take away from the fact that it's a serious topic. As expected, it brings up the discussion of how we portray women in society (even decades later).
The question of murder has always nagged at me. I wish I could have all the answers.
"They were lost and confused. They were psychopaths and child slayers. But they were not wolves. They were not vampires. They were not men. Time and again, the record shows: they were horrifyingly, quintessentially, inescapably human".
GOD, I love this quote. It encapsulates what I feel to a T. It's a scary thought. We're all just human. And some humans, for some reason, are driven to do horrible things.

This was a very well done book. It talked about these women, but also about how we as society viewed them with bias. I read this book in a single sitting because it was so well organized, and this nonfiction was written in a way it felt like a narrative rather than a lecture.

Baia Baia este libro tiene mucha razón normalmente cuando las mujeres cometen un crimen pasa desapercibido o las alaban o lo toman de broma y más si es hermosa ,incluso hasta dudan y se oponen como si no existieran mujeres malas.

Lots of poison! This was a pretty quick read and I enjoyed most of the stories (although the details started to blur together towards the end because some of the stories are pretty similar). I understand why the author decided to exclude more recent murders (as she explains in the conclusion), but I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if I could read those stories and be a bit bummed out by them (I'm a sucker for a good, sad story). I really liked the author's style of writing and the critical lens through which she researched these murders.

I enjoyed this book! I definitely found some stories more entertaining than others, but overall a great read. She did a good job of focusing on lady killers that are not widely known. I also thought her conclusion perfectly summed up how I feel about murder and crime stories “But I believe in the healing and illuminating power of narrative, and I think there’s something to be gleaned from looking at evil, trying to understand if, wondering if perhaps we are all a little bit responsible.”
