I want to start by saying this book will be a 3-4 star for most other readers.
For me, it was a 2, 2.5 star read. It all boiled down to the writing style for me, and I think that's just personal preference, the writing lacked depth. This isn’t the beautiful prose of the classic thriller novels; this is definitely new-age writing found in fast fiction, fiction that is meant to be addictive for sure, but also for authors to be able to pump out multiple books a year. This gives Frieda McFadden vibes, although I think Frieda has a more substantive writing style. That being said, there were some excellent parts in this book that I liked!
The good
Fast-paced
Very easy to read
Suspenseful
A few twists that shocked me
The marriage dynamics are done well
The not-so-good
I could not get past the writing style; it took me out of the book for sure
The characters are overwhelming unlikeable and personally unrelatable to me
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC.

A Marriage of Lies by Amanda McKinney sent delicious chills up and down my spine. I hungrily gulped down this domestic psychological thriller in one sitting and was pleased with the way it ended. The deceit and secrets in real life would be atrocious but in a thriller? Bring it on!
In a police interview, Detective Rowan confesses to murder early on. Prior to that, she detects cracks in her marriage to Shep. Their lies eventually catch up to them. I felt the angst in the air, in(actions) and in their words. Rowan's detective partner Kellan is a close friend and the two also flirt and banter which provides a dangerous form of stability.
Rowan's therapist Amber is also stuck in a complicated marriage. She and her husband Mark are distressed to hear their young son has cognitive problems. As a therapist Amber hears others' problems all day and discovers more webs of lies...and some are her own.
Meanwhile, there's a killer on the loose with a disturbing modus operandi. Both women get entangled in the case in different ways.
Though the unconvincing law reinforcement bits didn't thrill me, the multiple perspectives and timeline flashbackd and knife-slicing tension did. The inclusion of other media (texts, notes) added believability. Few characters are likeable but they were well written.
If it's time to bite your nails, read this.
My sincere thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this riveting novel.

Title- A marriage of lies by @amandamckinneyauthor
Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first book by Amanda McKinney and I was not disappointed one bit. This was a fast read for me and every word had me hooked until the end.
The introductions of Rowan, a married detective, and Amber, her married therapist, reveal troubled home lives for each woman. In their small town, murders of women occur with eerie similarities: X marks on the victims signify an ominous message. Who’s killing and what do these messages mean?
This book kept me engaged and guessing, even when I thought I had some aspects figured out. There was twist in there I was not expecting at an all.
Very well done @amandamckinneyauthor ❤️

This is not a book I’ve seen talked about too often, but when I saw it was immediately available as an audiobook on @hoopladigital, with an average of 4.13 stars on @goodreads, it was a no-brainer. It was gripping from the start, fast-paced, and engaged me from start to finish!
The book starts with a detective confessing to a murder. The book then goes back in time to the events that led up to this killing and all the lies that have been told in between.
This was a very engaging quick read where I seriously couldn’t put the book down. Even if parts were predictable, I was glued to the pages and kept them turning until I witnessed everything play out.
OH.
EM.
GEE.
This book was brilliant! It blew my mind! I'm still reeling my jaw up from the twists.
I LOVE @amandamckinneyauthor already, but she has knocked it outta the park with her second full-length thriller.
So you go into this one thinking, oh another domestic thriller set in an affluent part of a suburban town, then BAM its actually a police procedural following a serial killer....
And you're like WHAAA
That's not what I get from the synopsis. Well, once you read this (in one sitting mind you cause I promise you won't be able to tear yourself away) you'll get it.
Oooooo you'll get it. It all comes back to wrap itself in a neat little bow in the very end that makes you wanna fall out of your chair and say SHUT THE F**K UP!
Trust me.

I devoured this in less than 24 hours! Definitely did not expect the plot twists that came with the ending but they were SO good. I hadn’t read anything by this author before and will definitely be adding more to my TBR. Thank you for the ARC!
