My 11 year old son has really enjoyed me reading him this book. It has led to discussions about ww2 and the treatment of Jews which  I have carefully engaged in but I think that is good. History needs to be kept alive. He reguarly asked me to read him the next bit and didn't want us to stop so he was very engaged with it.

I think Michael Morpurgo has a gift to write books that are light and easy to read, but also can destroy you.

Just as boring, pointless, and in places patronisingly implausible as 'War Horse'. To add to the general misery, the preposterous vocabulary leaves no doubt that the author has not the dimmest idea who his target readers are. I wouldn't touch another of his books with a barge pole.

"long live the bear"

A nice little Morpurgo story. It brought a tear to my eye. He's one of my fave authors.

Loved it! The changing perspectives on the impact of Nazi ruling in France and saving Jewish refugees was fantastic to read. Some suspense and drama and partly sad ending but loved all the characters especially Jo

Beautiful book - again!
