A courageous story told with grace and humor! Use this with my 7th graders during my #ReadingWithoutWalls choice book unit.

I read this book because Adam recommended it to me! He does not enjoy reading so if he’s recommending something I better read it. True story that shows human struggle and strength. It was fun to talk about this book with Adam! Glad he read this at the start of his middle school journey.

This book gave me some serious "Wonder" feels, but with a little more self-deprecating humor thrown in there. I really enjoyed reading this autobiography. It started out with my heart breaking for Robert, but as the story moves on you realize that this kid is not about to be held back because of what people think of him. It was definitely a great read and one that I would recommend to practically anyone because sometimes we need to take a walk in another's shoes to truly understand their struggles and appreciate ourselves.

My fourth and fifth graders loved this book. It delivers a powerful message about difference and living with stigma.

I have requested this book for our school library. Beautifully written.

I love the lesson the book teaches, but the writing wasn’t my favorite.

From the moment Robert was born he had to face challenges. His mother didn’t visit him until he was weeks old. She didn’t bring him home for months. He was “ugly.” Born with an unusual face and legs that would never work properly. He faced countless surgeries on his face as well as two leg amputations. He was fitted with prosthetic legs. Robert tells the story of his life up until grade-ten. He explains how he was teased, how he longed to play a team sport, and how he often struggled medically.

Can't think of anything pithy - this is really good, and really thoughtful, and funny too.

Good nonfiction title to pair with [b:Wonder|11387515|Wonder|R.J. Palacio|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1472429881s/11387515.jpg|16319487]

This is the most beautiful book that I have read so far. Writing about disability is not easy and writing with this level of emotions, humor and sensitivity is commendable.

This is a story of internal war, never giving up and acceptance of oneself. All above the mantra to the happy life!

So much can be learned from this book. Highly recommend!
