« With humans, there are any number of people jostling for space in the same territory. You might think they all get along fine together, but that’s all just show, and in reality, there is just one person controlling any given territory. »

my cat was my soulmate and the love of my life and she died 12 days ago. this book was so sweet and healing. I saw traces of my Blue in every story and it made me feel like she was still here with me, curled up in my lap. I started crying 2 paragraphs in and didn’t stop until the last word.

'I am sure that she, too, loves this world.'

What a gloriously sweet little hopeful book.

I was given this by my colleague, Karen, knowing I loved something a bit weird and I loved Japanese fiction. This short tale is told by a number of narrators, some human and some feline. Each section tells the story of a different human/ cat pairing through the gloriously simple things which make a life a life.

I think what I enjoy the most about Japanese lit is that it always seems to make the simplest of things feel poignant. The love between these cats and their owners, often through minor or major troubles, is so warming. The cats make philosophical points which are far from pretentious coming from their feline vantage points.

I wasn't super sure about the dog, Jon, but maybe that's just me being a cat person... ;)

I loved how the humans overcame the troubles they went through in life with the unknown support of their cats. I loved how the changes of the seasons were described so beautifully. All round, a lovely little book.

Al fin he podido hacerlo y estoy encantada.
