I'm trying to read a book from every country and I picked this one for Norway.
I'm now so disappointed that I think that country deserves another shot.
I'm gonna pick another book for Norway.

A small enjoyable mediation on what silence is and how you can access it. This philosophical review of silence taught me new ideas and allowed me to reflect on old ones. A lovely little listen during a camping trip. I originally wanted to listen to Kagge’s “Walking” but it wasn’t available at my library. This was a great replacement and I would like to read more from him.
i’ve read this book three times now, twice this year. i truly don’t have words to describe how impactful it has been in my life. it’s content resonates with me each and every day. if you’re fascinated by silence, noise, and beauty, i implore you to dive into this. ill buy you a copy.

I need to stop reading books where I agree with the central premise but do not need to read pages of waffly middle class high faluting pseudo philosophy to get the point

There's nothing in this very short book that isn't found elsewhere. It's hard to take a book seriously when it has a segment on the genius of Elon Musk, albeit one written 8 years ago when people didn't really know how false that would come to sound.
Encountered this totally by chance and was enchanted first with the title and then immediately again by the book cover which has a simple, soft yet ethereal glistening appearance featuring a big sky and distant mountains. Don't usually spend time praising book covers. The size of the book is also less common, somewhere in between the size of a devotional and a traditional nonfiction book. Very easy on the hands and the eyes.
This is a philosophical series of short essays, each addressing some aspect of silence and the busy, often negative, world we live in. Kagge, from Norway, is an explorer, lawyer, art collector and publisher. He clearly has a wide understanding of philosophy as well, quoting numerous great thinkers as he ponders why silence is necessary and elusive.
This is a nice, reflective collection that can be picked up and put down at will. It urges us to embrace silence for many positive reasons including creativity, simplicity, peace of mind, stress relief, the need to experience nature, and just living for even brief moments in time without distraction. Nicely done.
