If you want a fantasy book with zero character development told from the point of view of a dude who is convinced he’s right about everything, this might be the book for you. There’s so much comically bad about this book and series. Don’t waste your time, there’s way better stuff out there.

I've been putting reading this book off for years, if for no other reason than for the shear number of pages in each book of this series. 800 plus pages is a huge undertaking, especially in a series of more than 10 books. This series has come highly recommended by several friends and I picked up a copy a few years ago with every intention of reading it, eventually. On a side note, I did watch the tv series, Legend of the Seeker, which I really enjoyed. I've only just begun reading Wizard's First Rule, but I have to say, I cannot beleive this book has such a high rating! The writing is really bad: repetition, melodrama, overexplanation, unnatrual dialogue, to name a few. There are parts that make me cringe they are so awkwardly written. I'm only about 50 pages in and hope the storyline picks up soon, otherwise I may not make it to the end...the storyline was a good one, the pacing supernaturally slow at parts, and the writing mediocre at best. I will most likely continue the series. The author has put some things in motion that I would like to see to fruition.
