Definitely not Tolkien. I wanted to like this book, but I just wasn't that into it. Maybe because I've been really impressed with the other series that I've been reading (All Souls, Dresden Files, and Game of Thrones in particular). I can't remember why I bought this book on audible. Either it was a sale or someone recommended it to me. I'm not a fan of spoilers so I won't give anything away, but I wasn't fan of the ending. I might return to the series at a later date (I hate to judge the series on its first book, many series that I ended up liking I didn't enjoy the first book), but not any time soon. There are too many other books I'd rather read!
Entertaining. A bit slow in the middle and a bit predictable at the end. It is very very long -- couldn't it be a tad shorter? It is epic, like [b:the Lord of the Rings|34|The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, Part 1)|J.R.R. Tolkien|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1156043001s/34.jpg|3204327]. Other than that, I liked it. I would not recommend this for first time fantasy readers!
This book was a gift from a dear family member, so I wanted to like it ... but the storylines are derivative, the writing is repetitive and sludgy, and the characters are flat. Not for me, unfortunately. :/
Decided to read this after seeing TV's LEGEND OF THE SEEKER and wanted to compare the series to the books, so I was a little hesitant when I read some reviews saying how much different the book was from the TV show.
With that being said, I was hooked after the first page. Sometimes I found it difficult to put down, really wanted to find out what would happen next. Probably one of my top most enjoyable reads. And so far the top fantasy genre novel I've read (granted I really haven't read that many, but out of the ones I have this is the best)!

Es un libro muy largo y no estoy consiguiendo arrancar. Tal vez en el futuro, pero de momento, no hago más que dejarlo aparcado durante meses y me agobia tenerlo ahí empezado.

There were so many things wrong with this book! The writing was mediocre with too much repetition and flat dialogue. The world building was sufficiently done, but the author failed to make me care one iota about any of these characters. I wanted to LOVE this book after being told by more than one person to check out the Sword of Truth series, but I didn’t even like it. There was nothing truly original about the storyline and it could have benefited from a serious editing pen to tidy up the amateurish writing and cut some completely useless chunks of the plot that went on for seemingly endless chapters in the last quarter of the book.

I read this book while stuck in an airport for three days. I went into the tiny airport bookstore and picked up the longest fantasy they had in stock, which turned out to be Wizard's First Rule. It was enjoyable at the time, as I was going crazy with boredom. Looking back though, it's nothing particularly great. I'm not much of a romance fan, and that took up way too much of the novel for me. The part with the Mord-Sith was a particular bit that even in my airport-induced insanity I couldn't get into. I'm not quite sure I understand how this series got so popular. Perhaps because it's one of the few actually long series currently in the high fantasy genre? Whatever the reason, I may try one or two more in the series to see if it improves over the first book, but if it doesn't, then this isn't something I'd recommend on its own merit.
