The mix of common and fantasy names was jarring, descriptions of magic used didn't make sense, and the pedophilia was very out of place in a story like this. There were many aspects that failed to keep me engaged as a reader and irritated me as a writer.

An atrocious read.

so So dreadful cannot believe people continue to read this and it could be anywhere near a top 100 li

This book is an ordeal. The plot itself is one long ordeal, and for me, reading was an ordeal too. Even now, I'm not sure why I read it to the end.

Spoiler
Darth Vader (who's your daddy) meets Gandalf.

This book was amazing. Was a quick paced book for the introduction nonsuch a long series. Hard to believe it will get better than this.

This seemed popular, and while my favourite books are usually among the underappreciated, I'm a huge fan of Charles Dickens, John Irving, and Diana Wynne Jones, all of whom have done rather well for themselves. So I thought I'd pick this up and see what I was missing.

Apparently I was missing a so-so fantasy saga with a bit too much BDSM for my liking. It was competently written but not quite to my taste, so I never went any further than the first book.

It was nice to revisit the book and listen to it while doing my graphs and crochet work.
