This book series is extremely well written and easy to get into. The complex story and world created by Goodkind is reminiscent of some of the classic great fantasy novels.

List all the fantasy book clichés you can think of. This book has all of them. It was cheesy and the ending was ridiculously happy like a children's novel. That being said, I found myself really absorbed into the story and unable to put it down. In the end, no matter how cheesy I thought it was, I still finished this 900 something page book in less than a week. I would recommend this book as a classic every fantasy lover should try.

This writing is so repetative. I think if it had been edited even five years later, it would have been about 100 pages shorter because all the repeated phrases would have been cut. I felt very told and not very shown, and the main character doesn't seem to have any flaws other than a lack of information. Also the s**ual harassment of the only female character in the first 5% of the book was annoying and unnecessary.

Favorite fantasy novel that has magic and dragons. Goodkind has created a world that is very visual and characters that you want to have over for dinner. Heroes and antiheroes are real. They do what I hope I would do in their situation, good and bad. Mistakes are made, friends are hurt, and some die. Hard choices have to be made based on the greater good and not for selfish wants. You are rooting for Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd in so many ways. There is no letting up in this book, and as long as it is, you don’t want it to end.

Like many, I thought this series started off better than it ended up. This first volume was quite promising.
