I didn't expect to love this as much as I did. I think I need a few days to collect my thoughts for a proper review, but herr are my initial thoughts:

The form of this book works so well! It's written in verse, which I wouldn't normally associate with high stakes and a racing heart, but that's how I felt through a lot of this.

I love how the sentences are broken up to make room for dual interpretations.

I'm surprised this is shelved as young adult. I don't agree with that.

I love this version of vampires as well as the themes of desire, restraint, found family, queer love. All over a beautiful book I'd love to reread.

I very... hmmmm this was OK? About this one. It maybe wasn't for me? I do typically like novels in verse but I struggled with the pacing of this. Grehan uses a lot of repetition which does successfully drive the point home that there is a lot of yearning, desire and (justified) angsting going on with Immy, but I was a little confused about how vampirism works in this world and that got in the way. Like... do they body hop? Or regenerate phoenix style? Why all these past lives that she can still hear? My confusion interfered with my investment in her character, which thus made the verse feel like it was dragging at times.

This is billed as a romance but it is mostly about Immy. Claudia is not well developed, which is maybe OK since we are very much in Immy's head and entangled in her trauma? But this is supposedly the deepest love Immy has ever experienced, and it's with a person who has a few traits and little personality.

I enjoyed the last third of Immy's self reflection and development but struggled with this story as a whole. The cover is gorgeous, tho.

Picked up this book today, and I open it to find it's written in verse, I've never read anything like it.

The story really flows off the page and keeps you reading. There's a maximum of 30ish words per page so even though that seems minimal, the character and plot are well enough fleshed out and it keeps a nice pace.

Delighted to see that Grahan has written for a younger audience, definately will be adding her other stories to my TBR :)
