I am not totally sure about what I just read but I do know I enjoyed it. This book is about the heart, no, the soul of a city. It’s about the struggle of the five boroughs in New York City to come together and operate as one entity. I am not much into fantasy so some of the concepts went over my head. I will say it is totally worth a second read to help me let it all sink in. Extremely unique book!

I read and listened to this book. I highly suggest the audio. Robin Miles goes above and beyond bringing to life the fantastical NYC author N. K. Jemisin created. I enjoyed the NYC insider humor sprinkled throughout the book.

The perfect read as I move to NYC. Super cool concept but some of the mechanics were convoluted at times. I wish the ending didn’t reduce the Enemy to just a combative city instead of leaving it as a symbol of white supremacy/gentrification/settler colonialism. Looking forward to the sequel.

this was a good one! not my favorite jemisin by far, and a little hard to get into at first, but it kept getting better. i was unsure whether i'd like to continue with the trilogy at first, but i'll definitely give at least the second book a shot.

what really turned this around for me was the audiobook. this is easily one of the best productions i've ever heard. not only is the narrator fantastic, the special sound effects made the whole thing feel like watching a movie with your eyes closed. if you're thinking about reading this, please give the audio a chance!
