The book and the plot draws you in and the personification of each of the boroughs is really interesting (first time learning so much about NYC lol) but hmmm something just feels missing from the plot in terms of completeness. I don't think the plot has been super fleshed out. Is the author saying that cishet white guys are a result of an evil creature invading our multiverse or what? And I thought the fifth season was about 10x more immersive and captivating sadly

Really intriguing concept, it just didn't quite hold as long as it went on. And what on earth did Staten Island do to hurt Jemisin?!

I liked the idea, but not the execution as much. The plot felt very drawn out and longer than it needed to be. Overall, I felt like we could be moving faster. I prob won’t pick up the sequel, but at least the audiobook for this book is super well produced

My biggest issue truly was just that the chapters are SO LONG. It is not a book you can “just one more chapter” much. The plot was a little complicated at first, but if you have read other work by N.K. Jemisin before it makes it easier. Overall a very fun time, also made me cry at one point. A LOT of character in the writing and you can tell a lot of thought and love was put into it. Only taking .75 points off for pacing.
Solid book, just very long chapters and a kind of confusing ending - guess I will see where it goes in book 2
Listened to the audiobook. Really well performed, and a great, creative concept for a book, which I have come to expect from Jemisin.

Can’t miss the theme. Surreal to read during a pandemic that’s slamming NYC. A must-read, not just for New Yorkers.
