I would have loved this book if the whole thing was about the avatar of New York. He was the most interesting part of the book for me. That aside, the other characters were good and I did enjoy the story. Books like this are not what I usually go for, but I'm glad I picked it up.

An unexpected absolute joy to read. Can’t wait to read the sequel - didn’t realize it was a series when I picked this one up. WOW.

Absolutely stunning. Incredibly impressively written characters that all feel so so real and like actual people. Loved everything about this, despite never even having set foot into usamerica once.

Big fan of primary’s pov especially, it was what made me buy the book.  Also love how we don’t learn his and manny’s “real” names, because we don’t need to. They’re new york.

Super excited to read the second book, ordering it so i can read it this week still right now.

Truly stunning work, and as i am also reading the fifth season, really really impressive to see so many distinctive writing voices come from one author.

This just wasn’t for me. As a New Yorker, it just felt a bit too on the nose. Also this very introspective style of writing made it very hard to read. I got very little out of the plot or even really the characters. It was just pages on pages of characters self-reflecting in drawn out ways. I was just bored.
