I love this series, but none of the entries have been as strong as the first one. I liked seeing Eric turn things around, but it felt like I didn't get to know Jean as a person, much less understand what she saw in Eric besides a willing babysitter and bed partner. And I didn't see what Eric saw in Jean other than someone who needed him and didn't find him abhorrent. So it left me feeling a little unfulfilled. I'll keep rereading Dirty, though, because I adore Vaughan and Lydia so much.
I’m surprised to find myself rating a book from this series a ‘3’ but here we are. Chaser focuses on Eric, that annoying tool I remember from the previous books, known for his messy entanglement with Nell. It’s not the best introduction to a hero but worse characters than Eric have been redeemed. Jean is the lead female in this book and she’s solid, strong and interesting.
Jean brings something along with her to this ride, this little tag-along was the best and a context I could get behind....normally. However, it took me to 30% to feel any kind of into-it. Then I struggled from 30-70% and finally I really enjoyed the last 30%.
So was this ‘okay’ rating an issue of pacing? I think a little that, a little me but mainly I struggled to connect in any shape or form to Eric. I didn’t really feel the connection between Eric and Jean until that later part I enjoyed and by the end I can say I still felt ambivalent about him. Kylie Scott wrote the intimate chemistry superbly when we got to that.
I’m enough of a Kylie Scott fan to know that this read was out of the ordinary for me and that in all likelihood I’ll be back to high ratings for her books in the future.
I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Eric’s story is much sweeter than I expected to be. As the misunderstood member of the Dive Bar crew, the consummate manwhore, I didn’t expect his to fall so hard, so quickly.
Jean moved to their town from Florida when several disagreements with her family caused a rift. The biggest being her unplanned pregnancy. Her parents weren’t happy with her decision to keep the baby.
When she arrives at the Dive Bar, Eric takes one look and is captivated, not realizing that she is seven months pregnant. Being the manwhore he is he immediately tries to hit on her, until he sees the belly.
Their relationship starts out as a friendship. Eric needs to prove that he can have a relationship with a woman and not just sex. Their friendship also includes being there for Jean’s baby.
Eric’s turnaround was massive. When he fell, he fell hard. His affection for Jean and the baby and his willingness to be there for her, even just as a friend, won his all sorts or redemption points in my book.
This was a sweet, fun read. I totally enjoyed it.

This was probably my favorite book in the series.
I didn't hate this. I just think Eric got a really bum rap. The guy wasn't nearly as bad as certain characters claim **cough**Nell**cough** Yeah, they have history, but when you constantly tell a guy he's a piece of shit...how's he expected to change??
Best part of this story is the friendship between Eric and Ada.

Chaser is the second book in the Dive Bar series and it can be read as a stand-alone. This is Eric Collins’ story. I first met Eric in book 2 of the series. His action showed his immaturity. When I learnt he would be the focus of this installment, I was curious to learn what made him tick.
Eric is owns a share of the Dive Bar where he works as a bartender. He is the consummate womanizer and is not looking to be involved in a long-term relationship. Then he met Jean, but when he discovered she would be his neighbour, he figured all bets would be off. Especially because she was seven months pregnant. This interfered with his attempts to prove to his friends he was not the low life womanizer they thought him to be. He tried staying away, but then he came to her aid the night she went into labour. Since they slowly developed a bond, one that went beyond friendship. Will Eric finally get the chance to prove to his friends he is relationship material?
I was prepared to dislike Eric based on my previous knowledge of him. Actually, at the start of the story he was vain and unreliable. He was more an anti-hero. However, as the story developed he proved to be a responsible young man. Someone you can rely on in times of trouble. As a result, I found myself rooting for him throughout the story.
Watching him bond with Jean and her baby was a wonderful experience. I loved how he was there for her during her lowest and highest points. Knowing he had no reason to help Jean but watching him being there for her anyway was heart-warming and all around a joy to witness. It was at this moment I saw beyond his selfish facade to his kind-hearted personality.
I loved how the romance developed. Theirs was not an insta-love connection. What started out as a friendship, slowly developed into a passionate connection that neither could deny.
Despite being a cute and adorable read, I had some issues. One of which involved the POVs from the story was narrated. I have no issue when the narration is done from one of the protagonists POV. However, in this case it did not work well enough for me. As the story was narrated from Eric’s POV connecting with him came natural. I related to his fears regarding love and relationships. I believe with Jean’s POV the story would have been so much more appealing. Not having her POV made it difficult to connect with her. I could not put a finger on her feelings for Eric. I did not feel any chemistry between them.
Another thing, which prevented me from connecting with Jean, was the lack of information regarding her past. I was aware of the reason for her relocation but beyond that, nothing else was disclosed.
I did not appreciate how Nell, who is also a co-owner of the bar, treated him. She kept putting him down and constantly tried to make him feel guilty for things, which happened between them in the past. They both were affected by this incident, but she acted as if she was the only one who was hurt. Even though she has moved on with her life. It would seem she could let go of the past and every chance she got she kept reminding Eric about it.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Overall, this was a sweet and heart-warming read. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Oh well, this was a disappointement... I didn’t particularly like this book, the latest one in the Dive Bar series.
The pacing of this book was too slow. There really isn't all that much happening and at several points during the story, it just drags along. But by far my biggest problem is with the characters and the inconsistency of them (especially Nell - she was a giant pain in the ass towards Eric. I get that they had a thing and he wasn't there for her when she lost the baby but come on, she was a huge bitch towards him for most of the book for no real reason., and Joe and Alex). I think this inconsistency of characters throughout the series and especially the horrible development of Nell & absolutely no chemistry between the hero and heroine ruined big parts of this story for me. And don't get me started on Eric, the manwhore turned "daddy" a bit too cleanly for my liking. While he showed interest in Jean and put effort into changing his ways, which seemed to be too easy for someone of his character, he was more into Jean's baby at times than Jean herself.
Chaser just didn’t do it for me. Pretty predictable and blah. Not enough there to make it a higher rating from me.
2.5 stars (it gets an extra half of star for the cover because they guy on there is just simply delicious)

A fun, cheer-up low-angst slow burn book.
Not particularly profound but I was not looking for that. Pulled me out of reading slump with me sniggering most of the way.
A bit like a warm wholemeal muffin with mixed seeds and maybe blueberries. Won't do you much good but won't exactly harm you either. And tastes real good.

I normally cannot read books with a MC who's pregnant, but for Kylie Scott I will persist, (plus we skipped the whole 1st/2nd trimester *whew). The book was great and I loved the growth Eric showed. I think it was especially interesting that this book was from the male main character's POV instead of the woman's. Jean was great, though I think she could have been fleshed out a little more. But honestly new moms are on survival mode & so was she.
4.5 stars
I truly cannot get enough of this author. Be it her contemporary romance with the smoking hot stories in the Dive Bar or Stage Dive series or her coming of age story, Trust, she is just so spot on in her storytelling. I’ll definitely be pursuing more of her books to read.
When it comes to this particular story, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Eric getting his say. He is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a very sympathetic character in previous books. The fact that he came to the realization that he not only had to, but also wanted to, change his ways on his own gave him some points from me. That he stuck to his guns, no matter how unsupportive some of his closest friends were, earned even more points. It wasn’t long before I was rooting for Eric. Quite frankly, it wasn’t long before I wanted to do damage to Nell, either.
Nell has always been a bit too pushy and know-it-all for me, she goes too far in this one. I get that there is bad blood between Nell and Eric, but she had to decide to either forgive and move on or to totally cut ties. It wasn’t fair to Eric, or even to herself, to keep going along as they were friends and then lashing out to him at random times. Honestly, Eric was great in how he dealt with her and her meddling.
The heroine in this story, Jean, is very young. But she’s also very mature and brave. She is not naïve or a pushover. I like how she handled Nell and the others when the time came for her to speak up. It was also wonderful the way she was with Eric. There is something he does that could have gotten her very upset, but she realized she had no hold on him and that was partly her own fault. So whether or not he was home or out of town has nothing to do with her, and she was mature about that. Much more mature than women twice her age often are.
Eric was so cute when it came to Jean’s baby, Ada. I love how naturally Ada and Eric took to each other. Although he sometimes questioned himself and what he was doing, he never made Ada or Jean feel like he didn’t want to be right where he was.
