I think something is broken in me, because after reading all of the amazing 5 star reads, I just … didn’t feel the same 😭 which completely broke my heart since I adore alison cochrun and her style of writing!
I will say, this is 100% a sad contemporary romance with a lot of grief and death scattered around the plot so please take the time and read the trigger warnings to take care of your mental health first ❤️
logan and rosemary used to be best friends in school and are now mortal enemies teaching at the same school - it’s a tale as old as time! and throw in the best character of all time, joe, their former english teacher and you have a recipe for a perfect second chance romance!! except, I could NOT get over logan and rosemary’s characters… they were unlikable and selfish towards their own hearts (from putting on a brave face and joking around to hide a broken heart to expressing little to no care about the few that actually love them) 🥴 I really didn’t like how logan projected her trauma and closed herself off from everyone by her selfish nature
while I understand that everyone goes through trauma differently, for a romance book, I want to be able to root for the characters, and I just did not feel that way about logan at all. the way she used others, including my sweet sweet joe, was not it for me.
speaking of joe, though, I absolutely adored him and cried so much because he SAVED the story for me 🥹🥲 I wish everyone had a joe in their lives because I promise, the world would be in a better place

Wow this book is so moving and emotional in the best way! Alison did an excellent job weaving in the grief, humor, and love throughout the story with what truly is the perfect balanced ratio. You will find yourself laughing and crying within the same chapter. While I liked Logan and Rosemary and how they evolved throughout the story as individuals while coming back together, the real star of the show is their relationship with Joe. Joe! What is there to say? That man was such a beautiful soul who deeply loved Logan and Rosemary. He Tuesdays at Morrie’ed the shit out of them overtly and discretely, making it his mission for his girls to be okay and to have each other when he was gone. I loved that they had this fun cross country adventure as the backdrop, it was a nice juxtaposition of light spontaneity in the face of impending loss and grief. I could not put it down because it was so enthralling (mild regrets now because it’s over). This book is a must read!

Here We Go Again is one of those books.
It's one of those books that makes you find something to appreciate on every page. It makes you swoon, makes you think.
Makes you read until 3 a.m., when you really should put the book down because you need to get some damn sleep, but instead you've got all the feels, and tears streaming with a smile on your face.

I've loved Alison Cochrun's previous two novels (The Charm Offensive and Kiss Her Once For Me) and Here We Go Again tops them all.
The characters of Logan, Rosemary and Joe are so vivid. So loveable and so flawed, I fell entirely into their Gay Mobile "death trip" journey. (And one other character, who I can't name before you read it, is now in my top favourite characters ever.)

I have loved all of Alison Cochrun's books thus far. I feel the same about "Here We Go Again." What an incredibly life-affirming piece of work this novel is. Cochrun is the queen of mixing drama with sadness, intense romance with pop culture references, and laugh-out-loud humor with serious introspection, and this book is no different. I will just say this now: if you have ever lost someone in your life, you will identify with this book in more than one way. The trauma of loss never leaves you, and reading "Here We Go Again" will likely stir up all kinds of emotions within you. It will test your limits as the bereaved. The ways I cried, the noises I made listening to this book... I am shocked the neighbors didn't call the cops to find out what was wrong because your girl. was. SOBBING. Like, heaving sobs, ugly tears, an 'eyes puffy for days' type of sadness. That being said, this book is more than its infinite sadness. Cochrun's writing is captivatingly beautiful, an ode to life and love and loss and truth and found family and second chances. It will warm your heart, only to turn around and break it multiple times over. At its core, this is a sapphic friends-to-enemies-to-lovers road trip story full of witty and snarky humor, self-discovery, and steeeeamy spice, though the grief often overshadows all of this. You *need* this book in your life, not only for its therapeutic value, but for its commentary on living and loving and having no regrets. An absolutely stunning novel!

Alison Cochran has managed to craft what I believe is one of the best road trip stories I have ever read! I loved the pacing, the characters, the scene building, the HUMOR!! There is so much I can say about this book.
Let's start with the happy stuff. Besides the fact that the book is hilarious, I loved how Cochrun uses the story to show travel through the southern states of America through a queer lens. Readers can expect to find themselves surprised by the love in the queer communities in different states during the journey.
Another happy-ish thing I liked was the characters. They were all so well-rounded and felt so REAL where I felt connected in a way. Like in Cochrun’s previous book, KISS HER ONCE FOR ME, HERE WE GO AGAIN has really great anxiety and ADHD representation. I also loved having a main character on the ace spectrum.
Now for the sad part.The main premise of the story and reason for the road trip is to get a man dying of cancer to his desired dying location across the country. The experience of witnessing someone deteriorate and eventually die from cancer is a major occurrence throughout the book, so keep this in mind while reading and take care of yourself.

A wonderful summer rom-com!! I loved the characters and the story, this is a perfect story of healthy growth and love. At first i was describing it as a gay tuesdays with morrie, until the amazing character joe said "this aint some tuesdays with morrie bullshit"😂 but it still turned out to be a great road trip story of a teacher helping his students grow while saying goodbye

Okay, I expected to cry (maybe not sob so loudly I scared my cat, but here we are). I expected to be emotionally punched in the face. I *did not* expect to be called out by yet another rom com, but apparently that's what we're doing these days, so cool.
The way this book has consumed my mind for the 24 hours since I finished it, however, was the most unexpected thing about it. I read half the book sitting at a park during the solar eclipse, and then read more before bed, and then finished it when I woke up and I cannot stop thinking about it. Lately the rom coms I've been picking up (and absolutely devouring) haven't been simple love stories, but deep and complex in ways I didn't expect. I don't consider myself to be judgmental (deragatory) about genres (I'm very much one to encourage people NOT to be), but clearly I've been making assumptions if I'm being constantly surprised like this.
Maybe how I read this kind of book has changed, or maybe norms in the genre are changing, but assuming rom coms are going to be light and fluffy probably won't be my default anymore. I'm okay with having to be more conscious of that moving forward if it means getting more like this though. I don't know if I'll ever fully recover from this one - and honestly? I'm okay with that.
