Great book yet still feels like trash in comparison to the other Steinbecks I’ve read so far. Loved the story but can’t stand written out dialect that has me guessing for its meaning to the point of having to say some sentences out loud for them to make sense. Also probably wasn’t the best timing for me to read this but oh well.

Man what a slog. I get that it's the point, but the shear repetition of roadside camps, broken down cars, searches for job, or cooking some terrible meal really got wearing after a while.
