What a horrifying concept...
I have read a lot of horror novels in my life, but none of them has scared me as badly as this book. The concept of living in the society created by Orwell is disturbing to say the least and yet not entirely unrealistic. This should be on every reader's bucket list.

I read this book at first in high school and viewed it as an unrealistic yet important comment on encouraging diversity of thought and voices in government (e.g., preventing uniparty control).
I read it the same now, with the realization that we as a species are always teetering on the precipice of full control by the powerful for the sole purpose of power. As discussed in the book, ideology and hubris temper continuous power by one person/organization. The right combination of immorality, anger/hatred, and awareness that the self isn't important leads to limitless power. Most want power and fame, and use anger/danger as a tool to obtain them. Those that only want power are the most dangerous, and we are seeing examples of those groups/individuals today wielding power and using anger/hatred/danger/fear to do so. That is a scary combination.

One of the few books I want to do close-readings on and multiple lit analyses . I hate lit analysis and close readings, usually.
This book is hard to read, scary, emotional, and thought-provoking. A 46-year-old book that could have been written today. A definite re-read.
My primary critique is the portrayal of women in the story. They are flat, almost nonexistent, and a corrupting influence, but expected from a book from the 1940s.

Esse livro é uma crítica densa e bem desenvolvida a certos regimes totalitários através do mundo distópico nele criado. No entanto, faz-se necessário levar em conta todo o contexto político e histórico de quando foi escrito.
Não é um livro simples, e não é necessariamente um livro difícil. Entre as duas opções existem várias outras que podem melhor classificar esse livro, e diante disso nota-se algo que se busca perder no mundo de 1984: a gradação de tudo.
Assim, é possível verificar semelhanças com certos acontecimentos reais, pois quando "bom" e "desbom" parecem ser as únicas opções, você deveria saber que está no caminho do poder. Ou melhor, de ser controlado pelo poder.
E frente a riqueza dos fatos tratados nesta história, tem-se a pobreza da interpretação. Penso se não seria um "duplipensar" esse tipo de ação: ler este livro e não compreendê-lo em nenhuma parte, mas tê-lo por compreendido. Creio que esse é um grande problema que 1984 trouxe à tona, mas de que adianta a mentira ou a verdade universal, se o mundo existe de forma singular na mente de cada um?
