I'm a huge fan of the tv series and have watched and rewatched it countless times over the years so getting my hands on this book was a real treat. It was such a joy to read this. It was so interesting to see how the concept for the show and the production came together from their first collaborations to pitching the story to the network and so on. I loved learning about the various cultures they drew inspiration from for the locations, costumes and art style. I know very little about animation so I loved seeing the concept art and how the designs for the characters developed or who they're based on. There were also storyboards of some of the more pivotal scenes.

One of the reasons I think this show was so successful, and consequently one of my favorites, is that there is a clear path the story is taking. Which is rare to see, especially for children's televison. They mentioned even in the early stages of development- before the pilot even- they knew how it was going to end. They had a rough plan of how each of the three seasons would play out, even if they didn't have all the details in place yet. This was the same for a lot of the character arcs as well, and I still believe to this day Avatar showcased some of the best executed and pivotal developments of its characters in any show or book I've seen.

The show is one of the most iconic and beloved I know of- and not just because it was part of so many people's childhoods. It dealt with so many important themes and showed different ways of life while also having super cool elemental magic fights. What more can one ask for in a cartoon? But honestly it was great to get a look inside the making of one of my favorite stories.

I'd been looking forward to reading this book since it came out. (Yes, that long.) It didn't disappoint either. This book was an excellent look at the process of making Avatar.

Avatar has been my favorite TV show since 2005, so needless to say, I love getting a look into the process of its creation. Also, I love the art in Avatar. I always have, and I loved getting to flip through the book and look at it all. It's amazing to see the progression through all three seasons as you read the book.

This is a book I would recommend to any die-hard Avatar fan who wants a closer look at how the show was created and animated. It has a lot of great art that makes it fun to flip through and look at.

Si ya antes vivía enamorada del complejo, emocionante e inspirador universo de Avatar, después de leer este libro lo estoy aún más. Recomendable a cualquier fan de la serie o de la animación e ilustración en general.

A behind-the-scenes look at the art of the animated series, the pictures and pencil drawings and paintings are beautiful. More than that, I appreciated hearing from the creators their thoughts on the characters and art. I would have liked to see more "large" pictures of the animation. My favorite part of the book was the translation of the various posters and calligraphy featured on the show. The book could've been tripled the current length and I would've wanted more.

I gotta say, this stunning art book has rekindled the deep admiration I had for this kid's show that I only watched as a college student. Not only is the book beautifully designed and the visuals displayed in all its grandeur, but the text itself provides the type of insider's look into each phase of the creative process that any fan would treasure deeply. Learning of the influences and stories behind the story added another layer of appreciation to a show I already deemed the best in kids' tv programming. Also, the attention to world-bulding is out of this world! The background, character, and prop sketches stand on par to the stunning colorful paintings! I'm reading a copy from the NYPL but I'm purchasing a copy the second they arrive to Word Up Community Bookshop; it's the kind of book you want to own. Just make sure to watch the show before reading this book unless you want to get the plot spoiled! 💨💧🪨🔥

After years of hearing my friends and peers gush about how wonderful Avatar: The Last Airbender is, this summer, I finally got around to seeing what the show was all about. Of course, I immediately fell in love with the detailed world building and multi-dimensional characters and ended up watching all 3 seasons in a week. It was one of the best and most intricate (both art and story wise) American cartoons I've ever watched. When I saw this book, I couldn't resist buying it and it was worth every cent it cost me.
This Art of Animation book is different from others I've read for several reasons.
Mainly because it is completely narrated by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the co-creators of the show. What makes Avatar, as a whole, so unique, is the fact that it wasn't created by some major production company. It was literally just two guys with a crazy idea.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Art of the Animated Series takes us through the whole process of creating the show. Everything from character creation to the animation process to creating promotional posters is covered in this book. It's absolutely fascinating to see how this show went from nothing to everything.
This book was incredibly detailed and contained and amazing amount stunning artwork. It was so much fun to read. This is a must-have for any major fan of the show.

This book is excellent for any fan of the Last Airbender series. It is chocked full of gorgeous production art, background paintings, and character designs and original sketches. It's narrated by the creator's Mike and Bryan throughout the book. They give detailed accounts of the process of making this series from start to finish.
