Great book for Advent and Christmastide. Writing from a variety of spiritual thinkers.

I have used this devotional book several times since I purchased it. Each time I find new insights, new ways to rejoice in my faith and in G-d's faith in me.

There are writings from all over the Christian map, people I knew and people I met for the first time in this book.

I would recommend this to anyone who is overwhelmed by what our society has done to Advent and Christmas. With this book you can truly prepare for Christ's birth.

This was a wonderful book to read through the Advent season. As a collection of writings made from many different theologians and people-of-faith, I was drawn to some writings more than others. I appreciated the rhythem that reading this book each morning helped me to set during the business leading up to Christmas.

I didn't read every word of this book, but I read a good chunk, and being a new Dad, I feel that it is fair that I post this as "read" because reading time is tough to come by these days.

Not quite what I hoped--it is quite esoteric and not quite as unified as I had hoped. I suppose I have preferred single author advent/christmas/epiphany devos more than this (such as the compiled Chesterton one or especially Wangerin's Waiting for Jesus) because they are more unified and you can follow the theme throughout. I think that model works better with following the theme/waiting for Jesus over Advent and then following afterwards.

Still, a lot of deep wisdom, and from authors I hadn't been acquainted with before. I will come to this in future years.

This book of advent and Christmas readings runs from November 24 through January 7. I'm giving it 3 stars because as I would anticipate with virtually any collection of pieces from a bunch of different writers, the readings were a bit hit and miss with me (though no major misses). Some I absolutely loved, others I found to be just okay. I was happy I read it nonetheless- it gave lots of food for thought throughout the Christmas season and kept my mind coming back to the weight of Jesus' entrance into our world and all of the meaning and impact and upheaval that represented. I will probably return to the book in future years though I may skip some pieces during re-reads.

William and I really enjoyed most of the refelctions as they trained us to think about Emmanuel God with us, and this being a time between advents. Funny how they seem to connect many of the things we are already thinking about.
