I had no expectations going into this and I will say that I did not expect anything that happened in this story. Beautifully told, unique, and profound. This was by no means an easy book but it was still compelling and entertaining.

This book is recognised for its brilliance and it serves as a revolutionary icon. It is widely acclaimed and it deserves every bit of that recognition. A tale of an invisible man is deliberately portrayed with the choice of a nameless narrator. The ending left me bereft and reeling. Truly phenomenal. Smallest, tiniest critique is the portrayal of woman although this is not unfamiliar with tales of the past. The aftermath of the modernism period is very much present in the lyrical, wordy and highly descriptive way that Invisible Man is written.

Readers who go in blind will likely not be prepared for Invisible Man.
Heck, even those acquainted with novels in the same vein may not be ready for Ellison's strain of experimental literary jazz.
Invisible Man’s stream of consciousness is a powerful wave that crashes over the reader—an opportunity to bask in the rawness of Ellison’s message and the feeling it creates.
The unique and passionate voices of Ellison’s characters are always front and center. They magnify—and are magnified by—his masterful command of prose, imagery, and characterization.
Like a niche subgenre of jazz, Invisible Man’s quirks, dissonances, and surrealism may put off some readers—but those who make it to the last page will likely return to it again, noticing a bassline here, a new harmony there, that they didn’t hear before.

I read this one for school so my 5/10 rating may be negatively skewed by the assignments and such, but I don’t remember anything about it, so it could be that it was actually that bad. Also I do know for sure that I wasn’t very into this type of story in high school.
