Started off very slow… the last 100 pages though? Whew, loved the ending.

Surrealism and realism intertwined to tell the story of a simple man in a complex word that treat him as a tool for disposal. It also shows that ignorance is not an excuse.

Very difficult to get through but in a way that a classic should be - it requires thinking and reflective. I like how the plot tries to balance surrealism and reality.
I have read only one other book where the author's use of language has amazed me--Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. The work is truly a masterpiece where every word, bit of punctuation, metaphor, simile, symbol, motif, and allusion can be thoroughly analyzed and digested. The words have a poetic, musical quality. While the bildungsroman has gotten a little old for me and the tale of The Invisible Man a tad dry, the effective use of language and fictional elements drew me in and kept me going for the length of a Harry Potter installment. I recommend this for language fanatics who drool or just simply concerned about writing the perfect sentence or paragraph. I know I will revisit this book as I continue to learn to write fiction.
