Loved this just like I've loved every Ruby book I've read. There's something so comforting about cracking open one of her books and this one was another fantastic read!
I loved seeing the relationship between Vali and Ranan develop as they work their way through misunderstands and their own hurt and feelings. Hurt/comfort is one of my favourite themes and Ruby does it so well. Vali is especially relatable as a woman finding her way in world that is not often kind to women. They both have their own issues to work through and I really enjoyed the way they support each other without piling on fault and guilt.
At it's hear this is a beautiful story about finding your place, taking control, and living life on your own terms. And it's done with a decent amount of spice on top. It was just a wonderful read!

This was a cute quick read. While set in the Aspect and Anchor universe it really doesn’t have anything to do with those books. Valessa’s enthusiasm to get off the slave ship leading her to volunteer to be Ranan’s bride was interesting. Her acceptance of being a slave was sad, but showed her resilience.
Poor Ranan and his issues speaking with people, one wrong letter and he acquired himself a bride. I like how he came to love Valessa and appreciate her. Overall it was a good book.
No third act breakup

I typically love Ruby Dixon's books, but the plot of this one just fell a little short for me. I could understand how long things took to kindle because of the FMC's past as a slave, but if the 5 year epilogue wasn't there, I wouldn't have been sold on a happy ending. These two had avoided speaking for like a week, then they're getting married like it's the next logical step upon reuniting . I think I just needed more time to view them as a cohesive unit. I also wasn't overly enthused by the 5 year epilogue as it felt a bit forced, but that's a minor quip on my end.

If you’ve read a Ruby Dixon book you already know what to expect. Definitely enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters. Usually I don’t enjoy the miscommunication trope but I feel like this was such a funny way to go about it.
