Cross My Heart

Megan Collins

3.67 AVERAGE

medium-paced

A year after her dream engagement collapses, Rosie Lachlan works at her parents' bridal salon and desperately wants to find love. She has recently received a life-saving heart transplant and believes her heart donor was Daphne Thorne, the wife of a local celebrity author, Morgan Thorne. Through an online service, Rosie begins to message Morgan, secretly believing that with his late wife's heart, she and Morgan are destined to be together. As they get closer, Rosie learns disturbing things about Morgan and starts to suspect he may have been involved in his wife's death.

I feel like I was led astray on this one. I thought it was perfectly fine, but it definitely did not blow me away. I have seen a lot of love for this book, and while there was a pretty good twist about a third of the way in, I didn't feel surprised by anything else that happened. My biggest problem with this book is that Rosie is a pathetic shell of a woman whose desperation was impossible for me to connect with. I didn't find many of the characters to be all that interesting at all actually. The interesting premise of this one kept me engaged enough to continue through, but when it was over I just felt mostly let down by how everything got together

Let's just say everyone in this book was crazy. 😂 Rosie and Edith definitely should not be friends. Two delusional people do not mix well together. I was starting to think I was the crazy one. I flipped between audio and physical copy because I had to make sure what I heard was actually on the pages. This book kept me on my toes! I did think it was Piper all along (sorry Piper 🤣), but I was wrong. If you want an exciting delulu murder mystery, this is your book!

A perfectly adequate thriller. Plenty of twists. I’m sure I’ll forget it by next week.

“Unhinged” women, a heart transplant, and murder?!

I have to say the prose and metaphors in this book were excellent. Everything flowed so well and it was an easy read but still had such beautiful and intricate imagery.

I do however think the pacing of the story itself and the plot was a bit all over the place.

I felt very disconnected from our characters and the suspenseful moments didn’t effect or worry me very much. Also every single person in this book needs therapy.

Thank you to the publisher for the arc through NetGalley! All opinions are my own honest opinions.

Domestic thrillers are a dime a dozen. But every once in a while, one comes along that has a little extra zing! This was oh so fun!

There is a lot going on, and you do have to suspend disbelief on a lot of plot points, but it's absolutely worth it! None of the characters are likable, and yet, you still find yourself invested and caring about what happens. They're all a little flawed. And you wonder if some are more than a little crazy. You'll also wonder if many are a little (or a lot) guilty.

This is my first book from this author, and she does a fantastic job with misdirection and will keep you guessing. I did have it figured out, sort of, but I changed my mind a million times on the way there!
