This book was good I just wish that they spent more time on The dog pack instead of Bluestar. It was just depressing and I felt like I was just sitting around for her to die
This book flew by! I could hardly put it down. The thirty or forty page climax was gripping to the point of being disappointed once the book was over. The story dragged toward the beginning, which is why it doesn't get the higher rating, but other than that, it was a pretty solid entry.

Thunderclan deputy Fireheart must deal with the growing PTSD-induced paranoia of his clanleader while handling all of the problems of clan politics, plus traitor Tigerclaw, now named Tigerstar and installed as leader of Shadowclan. But unknown to the clan cats, a sinister new force has invaded the forest, and it will prove to be the most dangerous threat that Thunderclan has ever faced.
This had a horror story vibe that was quite effective. Even though the nature of the new threat is revealed to the reader in the introduction, it still comes off as terrifying and mysterious when viewed through the eyes of Fireheart and the other Thunderclan cats.
As the next-to-last installment in this series, this book is loaded with major plot developments, and it wraps up several subplots.
There were a few things that didn't work: A romance that relied heavily on standard tropes (and a bit of protectiveness-that-is-really-sexism), an overly melodramatic ending scene, and a bit of that problem sometimes seen in monster movies where the monster doesn't get enough screen time.
Overall, though, this was a satisfying and eventful installment that sets up a major climactic conflict for the final book.

“You will have the warmth of fire to protect your Clan and the fierceness of fire to defend it. You will be Firestar, the light of ThunderClan.”
