This brought back so many memories I was read this in the 3rd grade and am now a junior in college. I honestly just remembered the first two chapters so it was just like reading a whole new book. Can't wait to read book 2!!

I first read this book when I was in 5th grade as a class and loved it. Reading it 16 years later… was different. For people reading it the first time it would be a great read!!
Really enjoyed this, not sure if this was the author's intention but definitely make me rethink the way I and others use our resources.
I've been wanting to read this book for a while, so I was so happy I finally got my hands on it. I really enjoyed the book in all. My only problem was that the main character, I left like she was too... happy? I know she was naive until she found the map but it was slightly annoying for me. great book though 4/5 stars for sure.
I feel like I can’t rate this fairly cause im obviously not the target audience for this book. She was a cute lil audiobook moment. I also just got the 2nd one on Libby so gonna give her a listen too. Great world building, but nothing really crazy happened plot wise that I couldn’t predict early into the book.
Could totally see myself reading this to my children one day but as an adult woman by myself I probably wouldn’t have finished it if I wasn’t audiobooking it LOL.

I read this book after Louis said the movie was good, and I sorta had heard about already. So my hold came in and I read it one evening. It was probably one of the best kids book's I've read. Short, sweet, and involving. It can definitely appeal to a wider crowd than most kid's books. The city of ember is very well characterized, and the end well lets say I got emotional. There are a couple of things that don't make a whole lot of sense if you think about them too much, but that's not really the point. I don't want to spoil to much, but they live in an underground city with lots of supplies there, but they are running out. Speaking of that, what is with all this talk about canned food and eating it after the end of the world. I feel like every book I read has to have people savoring fruit out of a can, its pretty much a requirement. They're decorating bunkers on top design, I feel like someone knows something I don't. Anyways cue plucky young Lina to save the city. The plot is relatively simple and telegraphed ahead of time, but even though you know what is going to happen, the book doesn't make any big deal about any surprises, and you just want it to happen so bad, or at least I did. I am off to read the sequel.
