Fabulous story!! Definitely written for children, but very unique, original and fun. The characters are amazing, and the plot ultimately says so much about human nature and the downfalls of our culture. Timeless, this book will make an incredible gift for all of my young friends.

Uninspired. It reads like a template for a young adult novel. A boy and girl venture out to solve puzzles, hide from corrupt grown-ups, and save the day. There's nothing wrong with that, but The City of Ember's execution fails because of cookie-cutter characters.

This is a great middle-grade dystopian novel, a classic from my childhood. Doon and Lina live in an entirely underground city, except they don't know they are underground. Their city is dying and Lina finds a strange note that she is determined to decode. If you enjoy a little mystery in your dystopian, this would be a great book for you.

Fatphobic character description + narrator adding heavy breathing as the character's voice = big ol yikes from me

This is similar to The Giver but really focuses more on where they live as opposed to the memories. We are reading it aloud and all of the kids are pretty engaged. A movie version comes out soon, so we figured we better read it first.

It was an interesting read. It had a good plot, but not enough description for my liking.

The ending of this book is so intense.
