These books always make me laugh but I have to say that this one really brought a tear to my eye as well. And the ending....well lets just say CLIFF HANGER!
Charley is back and doing what she does best, solving crimes, drinking coffee and burning it up with Reyes! And Reyes is doing what he does best, which is to smolder and just be DAMN SEXY!
One of the things I love most about these books are the secondary characters and their interactions with Charley. I think if you are going to have a successful long running series you have to have a strong cast of secondary characters that people care about just as much as the main character. I for one am rooting for Cookie and Ubie, hoping Donovan and the Bandits come back, and am so glad that Rocket's home will be safe now. (Charley is going to have to bring a truckload of grape soda and little umbrellas to make up for how she treated Rocket)
The world that Ms. Jones has created here is unique but at the same time very identifiable. The books have the right mix of humor, sex and mystery that keep me coming back again and again. I am always excited to see what object/body part we will learn the name for next. And I just have to say I want a shower like George...especially if it comes with it's own Reyes!
The next book Sixth Grave on the Edge comes out in May of 2014 and all I can say is where is a Time Lord when I need one!!!

Darynda Jones' writing with Lorelei King's narration is a great combination. Jones knows how to mix mystery, danger, pathos and humor in just the right balance. The story kept me on my toes with the mystery. The description of the victims was particularly heart wrenching, and a scene towards the end had me a little teary eyed. Charley's witty commentary, especially as delivered by King, is the icing on the cake. After having listened to a lot of lackluster audiobooks over the years, I really appreciate how perfectly King reads the story in terms of pace, emotional punch, and comic timing. She completely nails it.
I finished this book on April 14th and I’m just now getting to writing a review! I like how the story is progressing and can’t wait to see what powers Charley discovers about herself. I’m really curious as to what Reyes’ true intentions are and what his father “Satan” is really planning. I also can’t help but feel like Charley Astroprojecting and killing someone and also snapping at Rocket is showing herself slowly losing her humanity or becoming less human. Can’t wait to start the next book!
Always a fun romp. I love Charlie she is a lot like my wife.
I keep wanting to like this series, and each time I am disappointing. I want to like the characters, but every time I'm bogged down by the thought process they each have. And the whole Rayes thing? it's gotta stop. I am not motivated by the 'hot guy' especially when he's a total jerk. I have a very hard time believing that so many people love these books. I do not understand all the fan-girl stuff about the dork of Reyes, or all the 5 star ratings.
I try to take notes from Charly’s bad-ass-ness and she doesn’t disappoint in this next book.
Can't get enough of this series. Seriously. I need the next one NOW but I'm sure I'll have to wait another year UGHHHH
