4.3 AVERAGE

WOW...That was just full of so much awesome!!...all of it!!...every page!!!...the mystery, the laughs, and oooh the sexy times!...damn!!!..and that ending...ggaaahhh!!...I closed the book with the biggest ass smile on my face...whoot!!...absolutely dying for the next one:)..

I like this much better than #4. Looking forward to continuing on with this fun series that lifts my spirits.

I love Charley Davidson. She is my love.

See the thing is, certain books need to be read when you are in the mood. Or else this bias plays into the way you like the book. Like I will never read Pride and Prejudice or any insightful classic near Halloween. Idk, but it kills the vibes. Only scary stuff (I know, I know, buying into the commercialization).

Butttt, I can read about Charley anyway, anytime. Her humor is my humor. Her awesomeness is timeless.

Charley and Reyes' characters really rounded up in this book. I felt that in the last few books, as with Jericho Barrons at first, we weren't getting much to work with. I mean, Reyes was amazing but I didn't really feel like he could be the son of Satan. I mean when you think of the son of Satan, you think of some heartless, callous human being. I wasn't getting those vibes from him. Nor did I exactly understandwhy he was interested in Charley (aside from physical attraction cause damnnn that girl is hot. My girl crush forever). It just felt so physical for the longest time, with hints of emotions. I feel like this book really pushed through those limitations and gave us some real insight into the characters.

This book kind of put things into perspective and I'm so happy.

Rating:

All my stars. Take all of them.

Several of my friends love the Charley Davidson books, so I snatched up this volume when it showed up in a bookbub deal.

On the plus side: creative urban fantasy with lots of action and suspense; swoon-worthy hero (if improbable); heroine with decent moral compass and not too much of the tstl.

On the down side: another snarky, hot-mess heroine who is rude to the hero and he loves her anyway. It was a thing in the late 90s and early 00s. But, mostly, it speaks to the misogynistic bias of traditional publishing where a strong heroine is equal to rude and snarky.

I'm glad I read it, but have no strong desire to invest in the series.

Wow...talk about a cliffhanger.. These books just keep getting better and better with every story!!!
fast-paced

This book showed how the series could get even better (not that I ever doubted it, I've been a fan since the first) but if anyone ever thought about how could it get better, the end of this book just proved it. I couldn't contain the excitement. I screamed, laughed, cried and sighed no matter the place I was when reading it. And this happened often in the 2 days I took to read it.
It was perfect from beginning to end.
Darynda, you are definitely one of the best authors out there.
I recommend this book to everyone.

"I came into this world covered in someone else's blood and screaming. I'm not afraid to leave it the same way.-T-shirt"

First and foremost: Uhhh... so where can I get this frickin' awesome t-shirt. I would totally rock this look!

Secondly: I actually will give this book 4.5 stars. I really liked the story and it kept me glued to the plot...however, the book's synopsis is kinda sorta misleading. I won't give away any spoilers because there is a special place in Hell for people who ruin books (and I have yet to really figure out this whole Goodreads-review thing).

I LOVE CHARLEY DAVIDSON! She is definitely one of my favorite book characters because she is super witty and relateable (except for, you know, the whole grim reaper thing).
One thing that I do find *somewhat* annoying about this book series is the "sexy" description of Reyes pretty much every time he appears in the book. WE GET IT! HE'S HOT AF! LET'S MOVE ON!
But besides that *small* annoying detail (that you can honestly skim over--like I did TBH), this book series is the bomb dot com.
