Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones
The 5th Charley Davidson Novel
Darynda Jones leads her readers on an adrenalin rushed ride of sarcasm, caustic wit, hot sex, and a mystery or two...or three...or more.
In Fifth Grave Past the Light we find out a little more about Garrett and the knowledge he gained while in hell, as well as the research that said knowledge inspired. We learn of some terrible information from Rocket and we see a more domestic side of Reyes; well, as domestic as the sexy son of Satan can be.
Driving the story, however, is the mystery of the 27 murdered women now residing in Charley's apartment. Who are they? Who killed them? And how can Charley help them cross?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There's more to it than the fun quotes that start each chapter, the quips and barbs from Charley and the gang. There's the intriguing puzzle that is the relationship between the Grim Reaper and the Son of Satan, the romantic relationship between Charley and Reyes, the family bond (that also includes friends) of Ubie, Gemma, Cookie, Artemis, and even Angel, Rocket, and Quentin. Emotions trump the blithe attitudes and sarcastic comments. These people care for each other and we as readers in turn care for them. No matter if you're in the mood for mystery, romance, or humor, you can find it all with Charley Davidson.
*** Warning*** This is NOT a cozy mystery. Also there is a scene that survivors of trauma may find difficult to read.

"Luckily, I believed in miracles. No, wait, that was testicles. I believed in testicles. We were so screwed."
Well, I'm a goner. The humor is scathing, the characters are awesome...the mystery in this one was really flippin' cool. I'm enjoying how the author starts a plot-arc (??) only to let it fade into the background before it jumps back into your face with a vengeance. Full-circle, man. That's entertainment.
I'm still not sold on the "romance." I've yet to find it actually romantic even if I keep highlighting the passages that feel like they should make me swoon. Again, the story and characters keep me interested but I'm really hoping for some swoonage in the future. Oh! And an ultimate battle between good and evil. Obviously.

¡ME ENCANTÓ MUCHÍSIMO!
5/5 aunque merece estrellas infinitas :)

This book all the normal tropes was too much. Charley’s childish quips? Too much. Charley’s obsession w reyes and putting him on a pedestal? Too much. The sex scenes? Too much. The amount of trauma charley is always subjected? Too much. It was just all too much and therefore eyeroll inducing. The only thing I still love is the tshirt slogans.
GREAT BOOK!!! Love this series!!! Cannot wait until #6 - can we get a rush on that??? =)
Still in awe after reading it that I started to re-read the following morning. I know Fifth Grave Past the Light is going to be on my mind for a while. Fantastic characters, great relationships and good plots equals an ace package
It is evident that that this series-Charley Davidson joins my select list of annual reads. o will be starting on First Grave soon. Delightful

I really really really can't wait for the sixth book to be released in less than a weeks time!! I love more or less everything about the series and Darynda Jones's writing style.
Oh my god ... I mean OH MY GOD !!
I think this is the BEST book so far (well it's true I say that every time a new book is released ... but still ><)
I must admit at first I had some doubts about Reyes (I even preferred Swopes) (sorry Reyes it was just a fling)
Ok, he was hot but well as all the other male characters in my books !! And the bad boy side isn't really original ... But that was before I read the five books and get to know him (a lot) better !!) and then all I have to say is ... WOW !!
Actually, I 'm jealous of Charley (and also Cookie ... especially since Cookie is like the BEST NAME EVER)
I want a neighbor like him !! I also want post-it boiling hot on my front door (big crush on the last post-it on the counter which is by far THE POST-IT THE MOST AWESOME OF ALL HISTORY OF POST-IT !!!)
Well ok I 'm not sure I want to be kidnapped and tortured by psychopaths but that's another story ...
Otherwise in this book, the characters continue to evolve (I admit I have a soft spot for Quentin), Charley is still awesome (Danger, Will Robinson and the other too !!), investigation (although gruesome) is captivating and we learn more and more things about her powers of Grim Reaper , what could / should / will happen later ... Well we learn many things =
No need to say that I am sooo eager to read the next book !!
PS: REYEEEES <3

EEK! This is the best of news today! Can't believe she'll make even a fifth book! Darynda is so absolutely awesome!

Read review:
So I always get this icky feeling when I go back to a series that I love after some time to read the newest installment. I'm terrified that I may not like it any more or that the author lost that spark which made it so amazing. But not Darynda Jones. After the first two chapters, I was submerged in Charley's world once more and it felt as though I'd never been away. References to Barbara and Sophie made me laugh but the very end is what I found absolutely priceless. Fifth grave past the light was brilliant, as ever. Though I am wondering what's going to happen to the book names once Darynda gets past 10... She'd better keep writing more books with Charley or us fans are going to riot!
