*Slight series spoilers present*
Fifth Grave Past the Light starts with a bang and ends with a bang. Charley is one of my top 5 female heroines and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The series gets better and better with every book.
Let me start with our favorite couple. I love that Reyes now lives right next door to Charley. It was funny watching her fight against going over there. As always the romance between Charley and Reyes is HOT. I love the way that Darynda describes their feelings and relationship towards each other. The scenes between them come fast and often and I loved every minute of it. The supporting characters of this series are always fabulous. Cookie continues to be another source of entertainment. The opening chapter with her was especially fun to read and I always look forward to her and Charley's interaction. Swopes finds out some pretty major information about Charley and Reyes. We get a small look at it but they don't dive into it as much as I wish they would have. We get a slight peek at what is to come in regards to Charley's ghostly side kick when his mother shows up at Charley's office. I am excited to learn more about him. Uncle Ubie and Charley continue to be close. His presence is there when she needs him and she needs him often.
There is one particular scene in FIFTH GRAVE that was really hard to read. I was in complete and total tears and heartbreak having to read it but I made it through and I could see how it will change how Charley looks at some situations in the future. The ending paragraph will make your eyes bug out and leave you panting for book 6. If you have not started this series you are nuts! Start from book 1, you will not be disappointed.

This book was really good. lots of plot twists and lots of sex ( more then in her other books).
While I very much enjoyed this book the plot made me wounder if she is going to end the series soon.

I love how funny the characters are in this series. The concept of the Grim Reaper being a woman is so original and I cannot wait to see what happens next. I also love the interactions between the characters.
This one was pretty entertaining. It kept me guessing until the end, and I love Charley and Reyes. HOT as always. That part is definitely delivered. And then there's the end. OH MY. *seals lips*
Here are my notes on the book:
-Many verb tenses sounded like they should have been past perfect but weren't. This could have been me not hearing the words while listening, but I don't think that was the case every time. It happened pretty often.
-There were a lot of instances of 'that' when they could have been removed. I'd apologize for all the editing parts of reviews, but that's my job. It's hard for me to not notice. And this book SOUNDED like it was poorly edited. Bah.
-I haven't read this anywhere, and perhaps it's old news. Maybe it's not even real, but I have a feeling that Nicolette may get her own story. I think she may be a spin-off subject. I hope she shows back up again because we didn't get any resolution there.
Overall, I liked this one. This isn't my favorite series ever, but Charley always makes me laugh out loud all the time, and I love Lorelei King's narration. Reyes is HOT, Cookie is a fun friend, and UB has some fantastic moments as well. I giggled, almost cried, and totally GASPED at that ending!!

Jones still surprises me with the story line. I love it. Charley continues to grow in a realistic fashion. Reyes stunned me at the end of the book. I think Uncle Bob is my favorite "side" character. Swopes answered some of my questions. Personally, Swopes is my favorite love interest for Charley but obviously that will never happen. Jones has been careful to never cross the line with him but I am excited to see where their friendship leads.
Smart. Sexy. Hilarious. Fantastic interwoven mystery plot. Loved it!
Well shit... I'm listening to #8 now so clearly this was so good I forgot to mark it read. Along with the next two...
DARYNDA really brought it in FIFTH GRAVE PAST THE LIGHT. Charley is overwhelmed with women in her apartment. She doesn’t hesitate to figure out their story. It really made me wish that there is someone like Charley to set the deceased at ease and help them cross.
Garrett Scopes helps to fill in Charley and the reader on the whole portal thing. He is a real friend, but I didn’t so much like him testing the dagger out on Reyes. I think my heart stopped for a second. Nothing like a little testosterone being thrown around.
I really thought I had the whole serial killer thing figured out. But JONES gives us a crafty twist and turn. And I am going to give you fair warning. DO NOT FORGET any loose ends. The case I sadly had forgotten just about did me and Charley in. Luckily, she really is a badass and is coming into her own awesomeness.
Reyes. I didn’t think he could get any yummier. Not only does he show us some of his domestic talents, he lays most of his cards on the table for Charley. It is more than obvious how he feels about her. But he could show me one more time, if he wants. *toes curl* But I have questions. How does their relationship play into the prophecy and the things Garrett told us? What about Rocket’s premonitions? And how can you make us wait so long to find out the answer to the last line?
This is not my first LORELEI KING narration. She is the voice of Mercy Thompson too. Though I’ve loved them together, I think she was made to be the voice of Charley Davidson. Her voice perfectly plays Charley’s sarcasm, confidence and self-deprecation. As usual, she rocks the secondary characters. LORELEI is one of the best at projecting alphaness on her males. They never sound neutered and actually drip with swoon-worthy sexiness. And as much as I love reading the series, Felicia @ The Geeky Bloggers’ Book Blog is right. “Freaking Brilliant! …I highly recommend these on audio.”
