I was legit excited to have extra driving time to finish listening to this book. Another truly interesting real world case and I think so e good character and storyline development. It's so important in series like this with a major series story and also individual book mysteries that we care about the second as well. If you're going to use word space on it and not the series storyline you have to make the audience care about it being solved also. This book and the last have both done that well.
This series makes me kind of compulsive. After book 3 I swore I was done with it annoyed me so much. But I needed some closure and thankfully I got enough with book 5. (Book 4 was forgettable also, so forgettable I mixed things up and reviewed it as if it were Book 5 and had to go change everything around!) Charley continues to learn about herself, she and Reyes finally start having real conversations instead of cryptic and/or interrupted ones and trust ensues. Thank God! another review made some great comments about charlie that explains why I couldn't give up on her.
Heres a few I copied from her review:
I love her habit of naming everything.
"Then I saw his shower. And I knew the true meaning of happiness. Two minutes later, I was thoroughly enjoying a massage beneath a waterfall made of stone and marble. I named this ingenious invention George and decided to leave my own shower, Hector, for him. Some loves were just meant to be."
I love that beyond her tough as a nut exterior, she's got a heart that's softer than my Pillow Pet (a Love Puppy, for those who are curious).
I love her unashamed sexuality.
Reyes. Good god, that man will be the death of me. He may be the son of the devil, but he oozes sexuality. And his taste in books? [is awesome]

This was a great read. I adore Charley and her sass, ADD, wit, and shenanigans.

"Luckily, I believed in miracles. No, wait, that was testicles. I believed in testicles. We were so screwed."
Well, I'm a goner. The humor is scathing, the characters are awesome...the mystery in this one was really flippin' cool. I'm enjoying how the author starts a plot-arc (??) only to let it fade into the background before it jumps back into your face with a vengeance. Full-circle, man. That's entertainment.
I'm still not sold on the "romance." I've yet to find it actually romantic even if I keep highlighting the passages that feel like they should make me swoon. Again, the story and characters keep me interested but I'm really hoping for some swoonage in the future. Oh! And an ultimate battle between good and evil. Obviously.

A mass grave. A cheating husband. A prophecy. More relationship building. Jones's books are always packed with action.
I am so glad I decided to reread this series. I totally did not remember half the stuff that happened.

4.5stars! So overall I thought this was another great installment in the series. I love the post it note parts. I think that there were great new developments in the overall storyline. The only part I didn't care for same as the last book was the need to name everything. She hadn't done that in the first 3 and I feel like it would have been fine without that in these last 2.

The first 20% of this book felt slow and pointless, but the rest was great.
