OK, I have gotten hooked on this series and can't seem to stop! The characters are interesting and fun to get to know. The storyline is so engaging with how the New Species is learning to live in the human world. I love how each species is different but still have the basic goodness in them, they respect women, love only one women and are so honest. Just a fun interesting series.

The ending was a little abrupt but I still enjoyed it. I can't wait for Valiant's book.

What kind of ending was that!? The story just stopped! Ugh! I sure hope we get to hear more about Slade and Trisha in the next book.

No! This book had so much potential! Someone tape Slade’s mouth shut! Argh! Sadly, I must write that this story wanted to go somewhere, but just never gives readers that wonderful complete feeling. Although the story is action packed, and brought in many new species characters to drool over, the true love story was never fully fleshed thoroughly to satisfy the readers appetite. Added characters, and heavy suspense, not only leave readers confused as to what new species Trisha t is truly meant to be with, but scratching their head as to where did it all go wrong. This said, there is a definite disconnect between Slade and Trisha; their love is unbelievable and unentertaining.

The concept of Slade not remembering Trisha, a woman who treated him when he was newly freed in an ER, is very captivating. Their first interaction is hot, and leaves the readers wanting more. However, complications, and interference from outside hate groups really douse your flames, and the story never really brings back that initial excitement. Slade’s attitude is a definite put off, even though Dohner tries fleshing his reasoning to readers over and over, he never quite charms again.

The one good quality of this book is the strong writing. The action and pacing is good, sending readers on a truly suspenseful adventure. The incorporation of Reservation for the more wilder New Species is genius, as well, and readers meet some pretty memorable new characters to look forward too down the road (Valiant is my fav!)

Readers be warned their is an uncomfortable near rape scene that takes place in this book. The bad guy gets it though. As to sex scenes, they are tame, and very minimal in comparison to her other works. Slade is pretty naughty when it comes right down to it, but I wanted more.

You do not have to read all of the New Species Series in order. Each book is a stand alone. I am currently re-reading the series, and have found it most enjoyable to read all the way through. I have discovered small little details that I had forgot, and characters that I know will show up again. It is best to not base your opinion on Dohner’s New Species series on this one book, you will enjoy all her other works. Trust me. ; )
