One of the best I have read
I loved this book. Not because anything in it is revolutionary. It’s not. What it is, is simple straight to the point and in your face at times. No punches pulled and I love it. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

This book was amazing. I downloaded this book to help me recover from a pretty crappy mindset and it was highly inspirational. The author was great, the advice was great, I would recommend this to any friend that's going through a tough time.

I didn't really get much out this. I'm already happy and productive, but I must say his Scottish accent is a delight. He is funny and vulgar. I enjoyed how he explained everyone's problems are self made and their own damn fault. I would like all of my whiney/self-absorbed acquaintances to own this. It's a cheery, short listen.
This book is a self-help guide on how to make your life what you want it to be through seven personal assertions: I am willing; I am wired to win; I got this; I embrace the uncertainty; I am not my thoughts, I am what I do; I am relentless; I expect nothing and accept everything.
It was the kick in the pants that I needed. I found it to be very helpful. Though I highlighted a lot of passages and dog-eared plenty of pages, two points stuck with me the most:
1.) Our thoughts shape our lives. E.g., If you always talk about how life is unfair, you'll only ever see the unfair parts.
2.) We need to be realistic about our goals by determining not what we want but rather what we are willing to do. E.g., Ideally I'd like to have strong, visible abs, but am I willing to go to the gym seven days a week and/or hold myself to a strict diet? No, I don't want to be that tough on myself. So maybe I don't actually want rock hard abs after all.
I'd recommend this even if you don't think you're wrapped up in your head, because it's great advice that really puts things in to perspective.

”Create the reality you want to live in by beginning the process of having the kind of conversations (with yourself and others) that actually shape that reality."

”When you start to view the world through the lens of what you're willing and unwilling to pursue, rather than what it seems you want and don't want, things start to become a lot clear.”
I'd recommend this even if you don't think you're wrapped up in your head, because it's great advice that really puts things in to perspective.
”If [your plan] succeeds, you can celebrate. If it fails, you can recalibrate. Don't expect victory or defeat. Plan for victory, learn from defeat."

This is for anyone who feels stuck, inexplicably incapable of moving forward in any part of their life. It’s a quick read. The best kick in the pants you can probably get from a book.
Many of these types of books are selling something more and he definitely throws in a pitch at the end but no stars deducted because he withholds no information and he offers additional free support for those who need accountability.
I think Bishop has really hit the nail on the head here. Unfu*k Yourself functions primarily as a manifesto designed to get your a** off the couch, propel you towards embracing the fear of uncertainty, and ultimately to taking action towards achieving your goals and building the life you want to be living. Thankfully this book isn't overloaded with research, stats, and context setting because if you pick up this book you already understand the problem, and I think we all know overloading your mind with quantitative stats isn't the thing that's going to help you solve it.

It wasn't anything I hadn't heard before, but each chapter did have a couple of good moments.
There were quite a few times real issues were brushed off as being "excuses" and there was too much weight/body shaming for my liking. It's motivation from an ableist perspective.

3.5
This book is targeted to those who are in a slump or just never really started "living," and in that sense it really delivers on its promise.
I imagine this is a really good book for those who need it. Not the most revolutionary self-help book out there, but there's something kind of empowering about listening to Mr. Bishop's voice in the audiobook version (which I recommend over reading) where he basically coaches you to a better mindset. It'd be a good intro to the self-help canon.
