Appreciate the push against toxic positivity and how these people are actually setting themselves up for failure because they aren’t really the learning how to deal with negative feelings.
I already operate within a similar philosophy to him. My resiliency is top notch and I’m really good at telling myself I can do things even if they’re hard. When I read a self help book I rate it based on how much I got out of it. This was a pretty good book but it felt like an evening at the bar with your friend who is really good at giving you advice you don’t want to hear. I didn’t get as many actionable approaches as I would have wanted. I’m also a data/science girlie and this was just advice. Now I can see how this would be immensely helpful if you need a kick in the pants to get a jump start but I am not one of those people. I already kick myself lol.
The ending is the most impactful. Forces you to look at mortality as a way to stop procrastinating and making excuses so you don’t have regret

This book is pretty basic. Don’t like your job, change it. Don’t like your relationship, get out of it. Don’t like being fat, stop eating potato chips.
I didn’t particularly care for the chapter on expectations. I don’t agree that you should lower your expectations because people are assholes.
I got a dog. He’s better than people & always makes me happy :)

"In simple terms, the language you use to describe your circumstances determines how you see, experience, and participate in them and dramatically affects how you deal with your life and confront problems both big and small."
I really enjoyed the way the author reflected on how the language we use effects our circumstances and accomplishments or lack thereof. I loved listening to audiobook and plan to go back through the hardcopy I own to apply the advice he offers. I would def recommend and see this as a book you visit more than once.

Feel like I just got yelled at by a Scottish man I don’t know for 3 hours! Probably wouldn’t recommend the audiobook. I like his general mindset but the book was a bit redundant.
Felt like the author jumped on the trend of “real talk” self help books. There’s also a bit of weird judgment built in. Overall not for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My mom suggested that I listen to this on audiobook and boy am I happy I listened! What a great book to listen to on the first day of a brand new year.
The narrator was great and hilarious. It’s blunt and to the point about what you’re doing to make your own like miserable. Honestly I think everyone my age should read this.
