The author of this book basically attempts to help you succeed by yelling at you. I assume this technique must work for some people - he's supposedly a well paid life coach. But shame seems like a poor motivator to me.
"One of the common excuses we feed ourselves is 'I want to change my life, but...' while watching hours of TV, eating junk food, reaming our way through Facebook, etc. Be straight with yourself. YOU DON'T WANT TO CHANGE! If you did, you'd be doing it! Call yourself out on this shit. Take a long, hard look at your life. Be honest with yourself, identify the behaviors that are holding you back. You need to use every waking hour of your life to further your cause, no excuses. You're not any different or any worse off than anyone else. You're not a fucking special case who needs different rules than everyone else."
Meanwhile, I'm reading "Hello, Habits," by Fumio Sasaki, which goes into depth about human habits and how and why we develop habits that we consciously don't want to develop. It's not so easy as "If you actually wanted to change, you would." That sounds entirely too much like "Privilege doesn't exist. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps."
Somehow, I'm not surprised that this guy left his native Scotland in 1997 and now lives in Florida.

Unfu*k Yourself is a manifesto to act in ways to change all the areas of your life that you may consider to be...well, fucked up (or at least areas that you may not be totally happy with). A main premise is that if you are not happy with something, stop doing whatever the fuck you're and take action. There is a little thought and science behind that however, it's not as brash as it sounds once you hear the thinking behind it. The magnitude of the impact of the thoughts and ideas that we tell ourselves or are conditioned to think by default is emphasized. The conversations that we have in our heads while speaking to ourselves have the most profound impact on us. Many of us deceive ourselves by the things that we think. We convince ourselves to not take risks and play it safe for whatever reasons that we have persuaded ourselves to think. The premise here is if you can think yourself into this complacent way to live life, you can ACT yourself out of it, by choosing to do something different. We are what we DO, not what we THINK. A main takeaway for me was to not become addicted to the self-help way of thought, so much so that one knows all of these great things from many books, but never does anything of use with the knowledge. I listened to this in audio format. None of the concepts are new here, but they are the type of things that should constantly be re-iterated in life, so the refresher was nice, but if you've read some of the classic self-help books (Napoleon Hill, Stephen Covey) you've pretty much heard similar info. I did appreciate his style of delivery and the occasional expletive. it was short enough not to seem too dry.

I really liked the no nonsense vibe of the book. It may have been the cussing too, but overall the book actually made sense. Now to apply it and move forward. Best part - it is actually a book of things that I can apply to daily life.
Just wrapped up “Unfu*k Yourself” and it was a total wake-up call! 😲✨ Gary John Bishop’s tough-love approach and practical advice are perfect for anyone ready to take charge. Need a kick in the pants for personal growth? This book is your new BFF! ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
In all honesty, I don't normally read self-help books because they all seem to be spouting the same sh*t just different wording. This book was part of a challenge I have given myself, that being said I picked it up trying to keep my mind open.
This book was a typical run of the mill self-help book. It wasn't really any different than others. To give you a touch of what to expect...He basically is saying repeat these sayings in your head and you will fix yourself subconsciously....at least that's what I got out of the book.
This is a book I wouldn't recommend to very many people as it doesn't honestly seem very helpful, in my opinion. It is a way to make a quick buck, and this author achieved that!

Listen to the audiobook. I don't know if reading it myself would have had the same impact, but I genuinely enjoyed this book as read by the Scottish author. This came into my life at a great time, when I was setting myself up for new routines and change to reach my goals. I disagree with the reviews that state this book is for people who are wealthy or who don't have obstacles in their life. That's rubbish. I am not wealthy and have plenty of obstacles, mental health and otherwise, and I have been able to effectively use the concepts in this book to help clear my mental fog and GET THINGS DONE.
This was a great self help read, one that touches on many topics that can be used for all different areas in your life. The author manages to write it in such an easy way that's relatable and understandable.
This is one of the shortest self help books I've read but it really packs a punch. Sort of gets you to realize that YOU are the only thing standing in your way, but conveys that message in a more gentle way.
