Although I'm trying to be vague and not reveal too much (so as not to ruin it for others) I'm just going to say *spoiler warning* just in case.
I first watched the anime on Netflix but when I learned that it was based off of a web-novel and that said web-novel had been published as a light novel I had to read it! Even though the anime and the novel are basically the same I still loved reading it because while we get to follow Kirito in the anime we really get to understand what went through his mind during those two years he and everyone else was trapped in SAO. I cannot wait for the next two volumes to be published -along with the other volumes! August and December cannot come fast enough!

This made me want to rewatch the anime! A very great story overall. Will seriously never do VR. Only a few continuity errors but they didn’t take away from the story.
I'd forgotten the side stories are in a different book.
It's still a really cool concept and implementation. good characters and a most good story (the romance is not great but then I'm harsh on most of them so what can you do?)
I remembered most of the story, forgot a few details.
If you're planning on reading, the progressive novels are better but this is where it all began and that's still really cool.
On a different note, the various retellings of this story make for a fascinating study on story telling.
If you're into that sort of thing ;)

Not nearly as bad as the next book, but wow. How did this get an anime? How did the anime get so popular? I guess the cool idea of "full dive VR" is just that compelling.
I love the SAO story, but the guy narrating couldn't do a convincing enough Asuna voice which took away from the experience. They really should have a female narrate just like the 2nd audiobook Aincrad 2, as female voice actors/narrators are much better at doing guy voices than guy narrators doing female voices, especially for anime.
