This book was suggested by a friend, and is good enough on its own that you don't need to read the first two in the series.

Contrived story, not up to her other books

Full of questions such as: who is Nicky, why can't she remember, what happened to her little girl, is this an accident, and finally, who's to blame? [b:Crash & Burn|22571612|Crash & Burn (Tessa Leoni, #3)|Lisa Gardner|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403630851s/22571612.jpg|41907960] puts Tessa in an awkward position, but she manages to balance the legal issues without compromising her moral standpoint. Although parts of the ending were anticipated (good authors don't just spring the answer on you out of nowhere) the full picture was so much more than I could have imagined.

Sidenote - I love the fact that [a:Lisa Gardner|18282|Lisa Gardner|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1395879573p2/18282.jpg] doesn't just spout the normal media hype about missing/abducted children but actually uses real statistics and puts them into their proper context. (Hint: the majority of children who are "taken" are taken by a non-custodial parent or other relative.)

Maybe it came from binge reading too many Lisa Gardner books in a row, but I came away from this book not liking it at all. I could not get into the plot at all. It felt too convoluted and too over the top, even for an easy thriller read. It was so fast paced and simultaneously dragged for me, and I had to force my way through it. Maybe it was the book, but maybe I just need a break from Lisa Gardner for a while. Either way, a disappointing read.
