I think this might be my 2nd fav so far. Also applause for me actually not figuring stuff out til the end. always a good sign when the mystery is a challenge.
Nicky Frank’s car has just plummeted down an embankment in rural New Hampshire, but she has miraculously survived. When she regains consciousness, although dazed and injured, her only concern is for her young daughter, Vero, who is missing.
However, as the police soon discover, Nicky and her husband Thomas have no children, no daughter named Vero. It seems that as a result of numerous freak accidents, Nicky has sustained several concussions in the past six months, and suffers from severe brain trauma, which leaves her confused and unable to distinguish illusion from reality.
As Sgt. Wyatt Foster and private investigator Tessa Leoni team up to investigate the suspicious circumstances of Nicky’s car accident, they slowly uncover chilling clues to Nicky’s past. But instead of answers only more questions remain. Is Nicky the victim or is she the criminal? Is Thomas really her loving and doting husband or does he have more sinister motives? And who is Vero? Does this little girl really exist or is she a delusion conjured up in Nicky’s damaged and battered mind?
‘Crash & Burn’ is a fast-paced and intense psychological thriller with many surprising and terrifying twists and turns, like an unstoppable train rushing to its dramatic and gripping conclusion. Lisa Gardner has managed to capture so remarkably the effects of brain trauma on a person’s mind. So convincing in fact, that the reader is apt to feel just as confused and troubled as Nicky, unable to determine if what they have read is real or just an intricately created smoke screen.
A fantastic read, I give ‘Crash & Burn’ 5/5 stars.

I've only come across Lisa Gardner recently as she was recommended by someone who's reading a lot at the moment, so for an author to stand out to her must mean something. So this is my first experience and I wasn't disappointed, I was gripped from the start and just as I thought I'd worked out what was going on, another twist was thrown into the mix. I will definitely be reading more.
I LOVE Lisa Gardner. I think that sums it up nicely.
Not once did I want to turn this off. Not once was I glad to arrive at my destination - always wanting to hear just a little bit more of the story.
As usual you are taken in a roller coaster of emotions. Does Vero exist? Is Nicky crazy? What role does her husband play? Does Vero exist? (Yes, I kept coming back to that one)
A must read!

Oh my gosh, what a ride! Kept me second guessing. Lots of surprises. Glad the author is, as she says in her acknowledgements (which were a very interesting read too!), a "sucker for happy endings."
This book was interesting as hell. I've always enjoyed a James Patterson or John Sandford novel on the beach, by the pool, or when I'm in the mood for something intriguing, juicy, and scandalous. Even Rizzoli and Isles can quench my thirst on a good day. I'm now adding Lisa Gardner to that list because what a story teller.
Yes, the dialogue is cheesy and you get the whole noble cop/investigator language that sort of makes you roll your eyes because it's too over the top, but the real meat of these mass-market detective novels is the drama and how does an author manipulate you to turn the page?
Lisa Gardner straight up fooled me. I can usually guess a twist or piece together details enough to come close enough that I'm not impressed when The drumroll event is revealed. The twist in this novel is the gift that keeps on giving. It hits you, one right after the other, constantly changing direction. At the end of the novel you're so tired of chasing the facts and trying to solve the riddle that you feel out of breath, like you've been on a wild ride.
Overall a very satisfying and fun read. I read this in under 4 hours I believe, so great for a long plane ride. I will definitely be adding more of her to my list to see what else her mind has to offer!
