I enjoyed the second book even more than the first and I know than the third will be even better. So much is going on with the characters and plotlines and I’m so excited for the final book in the trilogy.

There was a lot of character development, which I loved. Right now, I think, my favourite main characters are Glokta (still) and West (not only did I enjoy their characters, but I also love their storylines). I still love my son Jezal, who went through a lot in this book and changed the most, but I wish more pages were devoted to his POV, plus I liked the storyline of going to the end of the world less than than the other two (Glokta’s is my favourite so far — standing a siege, secrets and conspiracies). I like Logan and Ferrow but I wasn’t excited about their POVs and I definitely would’ve preferred them staying friends. And I don’t care about Dogman.

From the secondary characters my favourite is Dow (enjoyed his interactions with West a lot and btw, how cool is the fact that West in now a named man and was named by Dow himself?) and I like Shivers. Although at one point I wanted Vitari dead, now I want to know more about her. My dislike for Bayaz has got stronger (I agree with Ferro, I don’t trust this man). I didn’t care about the apprentice but now I’m intrigued. Quai is giving off weird vibes, something is definitely up with him. It feels like he actually hates Bayaz. My main guess is that he is Tolomei’s son or in some other way connected to Kanedias. And relationship between Glokta and Ardee warms my heart (my hope is slim but I will be so happy if they end up together).

One of my favourite scenes: when West killed the prince.

I sat on this for a few days before writing this review, because I wanted to know if I still felt the same way after several days,

yup, I do. This might be my favorite book of all time, if not at very least in the top 5. I'm still working on listening to the last book in the trilogy, but I've got high hopes for it as well. Once again, the character work in this novel is stellar. Stunning. Flawless. I love who I love and hate who I hate and it manages to be hilarious, sad, and really painfully real.

There's sooooooo much to touch on again, so I'll just kind of summarize the characters and their journies throughout the war with the Gurkish.

Those with the least always lose the most in war.

Glokta. Glokta is still my hate. I hate him. He is the worst. He made bad choices that led to his men being killed and him being captured and tortured and then proceeded to become an even shittier person instead of learning from his mistakes. I still love listening to the narrator portray him, and love following his POV. In this book, he is sent south to prepare for a siege and discover what happened to the Inquisitor that was there before him, likely a traitor in the city of Dagoska. He is ruthless, intelligent, and set on leaving Dagoska alive at any cost. He makes some really interesting choices here that make me wonder if he does kind of have a bit of a conscience, but realistically, I think he's just sexist.

“As for being a good man," and Glokta curled his lip, "that ship sailed long ago, and I wasn’t even there to wave it off.”

West. Oh. My. God. WEST. I feel like West's part in this book was much larger than in "The Blade Itself" and I loved every second of it. In the first book, we see him mostly from Jezal's POV, and he is a man that struggles a lot with being a bit too much like his father. His father was a commoner known for his lack of anger management who heavily abused his children. West left, meaning his sister Ardee was left alone with his father. We see West regret this, but at the same time he makes some decisions that made him (and me) feel really sick. Still, I hope to see him further grow, but when he
throws the prince off of a cliff
, I have never laughed harder at a book. It was so funny, so absolutely shocking that I couldn't stop. I was grinning like a fool because the situation was great. I also loved his trust in the Northlanders and Pike. He really does seem like a good person with a really bad streak, but some things are unforgivable.

Jezal. This man is an idiot and it's so funny to watch him bumble his way through situations. Him swearing to change after almost dying and then proceeding to immediately go back on it is extremely relatable, but he is so bad at everything and it's just so funny to see. He's on a journey with Bayaz, Longfoot, Ferro, Quai, and Logen to do whatever Bayaz is doing to find a secret weapon to destorythe Gurkish. I enjoyed watching his bond with Logen grow, and his attempts to befriend Farro, and his disdain for Bayaz.

Bayaz. Still feels like he knows way too much and I know too little. Having listened to the  first couple hours of "The Last Argument of Kings" I'm even more suspicious of what he's keeping secret. He is also always there. It's convenient and suspicious.

Ferro. My love. She is so rough around the edges and so unwilling to trust, but she's trying ok? Her interactions with everyone are so out of pocket and I can't get over what an absolute nuisance she is. She doesn't know how to talk to people, and most of what she says is extremely blunt, rude vulgarity. She has some really sweet moments in this book, especially with Logen. While I would hardly call it a romance, I think it's the closest thing to a friendship Ferro has ever really had. A lot of her heartbreaking past is revealed in this novel, and while I already loved her, her hardships made me want to give her a big hug even though she'd probably stab me for it.

Nothing was easy with people, but she could always count on herself to make things more difficult than they had to be.

Logen. Logen is still the most real character in the book. He struggles with his past as a killer, but is reminded of it every single time he talks to someone who has heard mention of the "Bloody Nine." He is very poetic, very enlightened, and wants a world where he can stop killing. Unfortunately, it's all he has. He is kind to everyone he can be, especially Jezal, and wants to build trust between himself and the crew he's journeying with. Honestly, he is just such a good, strong character.

"Doing better next time. That’s what life is.”

The Dogman also plays a pretty big part in this book, especially with Logen's old crew.

Once again, there are a lot of really strong characters in this book, and I wish I could say so much more, but there's a lot to say, and a lot happens, and there are so many characters, and it's just a lot.

But I loved every second of it. I loved this book so much, and I can't wait to see how everyone's story ends.
