Overall, an interesting story on a fascinating subject. However, the story is a but slow to start and jumps around a bit, but I'm definitely glad I picked this book up.
Fascinating look at the Allied soldiers charged with locating, protecting and re-patriating artworks looted by the Nazis. I didn't want the book to end and desperately wish the author had more books out.
Interesting book, history that needs to come to light. Not an easy-breezy read, but definitely fascinating.
It took me quite a while to read this book, but I really enjoyed it. I think it's insane we've forgotten this incredibly important part of WWII. And I'm glad I've been taught about it. I'm looking to expand my knowledge even further though. I'm thinking of looking into books on the Rothschild family, the Nuremberg trials, Altaussee, the Nazi Party...
I'm definitely going to write a full review of this, and I'll include some quotes that really stood out to me. All in all, I'd highly recommend it. And I'm definitely going to watch the movie soon.

It took me a while to get through this (it's long!), which resulted in my difficulty in keeping track of the large number of players. That issue aside, the history of the Monuments Men was a fascinating one and the book was well-written and impactful. Four stars.
Absolutely fantastic. A book that hits the spot for those who love art history and the modern world. I would recommend this to anyone not only interested in the history of WW2, but those intrigued by humanity's relationship to art and culture.
This is a long slow read, but it is worth it! The Nazis were famous for their cruel treatment of the Jews, but they were also looters and thieves. Adolf Hitler wanted all the Aryan-approved works of art to be featured in his own museum: the Fuhrermuseum. He ordered his men to steal paintings, statues, books, anything worth of any value, and hide it away. But a wonderful group of men--the Monuments Men--had their own plans. Retrieve the hidden treasures and return them to the world where they rightfully belonged.
