Ever since I read Duveen, I have been looking for a good book to get into that is along the same lines. Well written, academic and filled with history. This was it. Sometimes reading about art history makes me appreciate art more than just looking at it. Also, watched the moved...it wasn't terrible.

This book was a little bit of a slow read for me, so I was tempted to give it 3.5 stars, but honestly, the subject matter makes me want to stand up and cheer, so for these brave and heroic men and women, I will bump the star count up. As a passionate worshipper of all things beautiful, the work that these people did during the war to literally save human culture feels incredibly personal. I was continually amazed by their patience, diligence, focus, and perseverance in the face of so many difficulties and setbacks. I wish I could thank these courageous people for their dogged preservation of the best of what it means to be human even in the midst of experiencing the worst of humanity.

I knew the Nazis looted art during WWII but I had no idea the scope. Book was a bit slow (I listened to it) but a thorough telling of the incredible story of the MFAA.

Interesting topic? Yes. Exciting? No. I'm thinking the movie will be substantially better. Didn't care for the style of the book at all.

I listened to this as an audiobook. Well worth the listen.

I've seen the movie several times and was aware that it was, as many Hollywood movies are, an adaptation of the story. I understand this book could not have fit into 2 hours and perhaps wouldn't have been as exciting a movie. But it is a well written, well narrated book. I now need to learn more about Rose Valland as she fascinated me, as did each of the Monuments Men.

Wonderfully written with great detail and an easy read.

was ok, did not know all about this, was interesting to see what they managed to save, took me awhile to get through it all
