I can just tell that I’m not going to enjoy this so I’m gonna stop now. The whole brothers best friend element paired with an overprotective brother for no reason just frustrated me to no end. I’m willing to bet this was going to be like every other college romance with a physical based relationship and I’m just not in the mood for that.
NO SPOILERS
This book was my second Monica Murphy read and I loved it
I couldn't put it down as soon as I started reading I was immediately intrigued by the characters and their story
I was also very grateful to have been chosen to receive ARC of this work of art.
I don't care who disagrees it should be kept in a museum
We have Blair and Camden I loved best friends sister and best friend of the brother they are the best I love this type of trope in the books so much
Looking forward to reading more of this series it's phenomenal everyone should read Monica Murphy

Monica Murphy new adult stories are my comfort food! She always delivers a story equal parts swoony and sexy, with just the right dash of that young love angst and drama, giving me all of that first love nostalgia. And I am loving this new college football series- the heartache, the steam, the sweet connections! Not to mention, we get the swim around more in the lives of one of my all time favorite families. Playing by the Rules is a delightful steamy, ultra angsty, and endearingly swoony brother’s best friend/secret romance treat. The tension! The feelings! The indecision and insecurities! AH- it has it all, and I just gobbled it right up.
Knox’s little sister Blair has always had a thing for stoic but dreamy quarterback Camden, her brother’s best friend and roommate. And now that she’s finally at the same college, she’s decided to make her feelings known- only Cam isn’t quite ready to confront his latent attraction to the alluring Blair. These two spar in a delectable back and forth of will they-won’t they until they can no longer give into their attraction- consequences be damned. But it’s not smooth sailing for these two despite their SCORCHING physical chemistry. Their secret relationship is only half of the drama- because Blair is all into this exciting new relationship, while Cam is struggling to figure out just what he wants, and what exactly is the source of his frustrating hesitation. He adores his Bumblebee- but at the crossroads of some epic life decisions and at war with his own insecurity and well-hidden issues of self-worth, his heart might not be ready for a love as pure and emphatic as Blair’s.
This one starts ultra angsty as these two play all kinds of games- it’s all so very college! But fortunately they also have a tendency to burst out with their feelings, balancing their cat and mouse romance with charming authenticity that inspires more open and adorable communication between them. I’ll say I found the start a bit slow and repetitive in places, the pacing a bit challenging at the start- the same cycle and reasoning, a lot of internal monologue. But, once these two started actually connecting more, I was all in for them. Their chemistry is SO delicious- a bit emotive, A LOT sexy, and a lot of fun, if only they could find a way to be together in the open. I found their romance so relatable- it does feel “young,” but that’s the point! Young love is scary and exciting and so BIG- and they have some real hiccups in figuring it out. Blair fortunately is a persistent little bee- and I loved how unwavering she was, and forgiving, it shows how unconditionally she loves. And while I wanted to SHAKE Cam, I also loved the focus on him figuring out his OWN self, the message about doing the self-work we need to love fully. And Cam is so sexy, and dreamy when he wants to be! Can’t wait for more from the Players series- hoping little sister Ruby gets her day to shine!

It started off good but then went downhill. The guy was way too possessive and I hated the reason why the relationship was kept a secret for so long... too many sex scenes and not enough cute scenes of them going on dates and just talking to each other. I'm sad that I didn't like it in the end as I did enjoy reading about the characters and I will be picking up the last book soon!
