Playing By The Rules
Monica Murphy
Book #2 ~ The Players
4 ✨

Synopsis ~ But I see the way he looks at me when he thinks I’m not watching. The heat in his gaze. The hunger. He can deny it, but that man wants me.
See, I’m his best friend’s little sister, and whenever we’re around each other, he’s always warning me that I’m off limits. That nothing can ever happen between us.
He’s the man all the women on campus rave about. And while he’s had a few casual hook-ups over the years, it’s never anything serious. Cam doesn’t do serious.
I’m tired of always being the good girl and doing what everybody expects. For once, I’m going to break all the rules that have restrained me my entire life.
Camden Fields is the star quarterback of our college football team.
I’m going after Camden Fields.
And no one can stop me.
He also doesn’t do me.
I want him too.

Thoughts ~ Blair is such a great characters! I loved that she knew what she wanted and she was going to get it! At times, Cam's character was flawed but I think this allowed him to develop and address his repressed feelings. Overall a great follow up to Playing Hard To Get!

This is book 2 in Monica Murphy’s The Players series. It can be read as a stand-alone but you do get some spoilers from the first book.

Cam is Blair’s brothers best friend. Blair has had a crush on Cam for years. Blair transfers to the school after a couple of years at a CC and Knox has made it clear to the whole football team that his sister is off limits.
Blair decides that she is going to come onto Cam and get him to notice her. At first Cam is hesitant but his feelings win out in the end.

I love a good brothers best friend and I think this one might be one of my favorites. Ugh this book made me melt! 🫠🫠 Cam and Blair’s chemistry is off the charts. 🔥🔥 I just loved the ending and how it all come together.

Thank you to Monica Murphy and Valentine PR for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really am enjoying this series, even if the books are a little bit long for me! I liked how this one kind of overlapped what happened in the first book, Playing Hard to Get, by taking place at basically the same time. Camden and Blair were meant to be, and it’s obvious to the reader, as well as probably most everyone around them, except maybe her brother. I like how Blair was able to kind of tempt him, and get him to finally give in to the temptation. Of course it went too long with not telling her brother, and that’s a normal story line for this type of trope/plot. I liked how there was more to it than that. Cam’s past was one that made it easy to see why he felt the way he did. I liked how he even took a moment when he realized that he’d started to become exactly what he’d told himself he would never become, like his father. And I like that Blair did set a line in the sand, not putting up with it, but that she did let him back in when he was ready. To me that is real. And it was more than just him saying he was ready. He did the work, he did what he needed to do not only for Blair and their relationship, but also for himself and his own well-being.

A great story, and I look forward to the next book in the series, although there are so many of the characters I hope to see get their HEA!

Somehow they were better in the first book with only hints and teasers. His public declaration is a no for me and telling instead of showing therapy is cheap. Their set up and idea was better than the execution. But they did have some cute classic sports scenes (like the jersey)
