A mysterious man in a tracksuit, a dead boy and a half dead teenage girl.

I watched the anime around five years ago, but never picked up the manga despite being dead inside after that cliffhanger.

Yato is a god. More precisely, a god who carries out contracts and will do anything for money. Now, that sounds greedy. How much, do you ask? Why, he asks five yen.

Why Does Yato Charge Only 5 Yen For His Jobs In Noragami? - Animehunch

This track-suit touting, blue-eyed slouch is much more than he appears. Unlike other gods, he has no shrine dedicated to him and no worshippers. Yukine and Hiyori are also fantastic characters

I absolutely wish I'd read this earlier. The art is grim and I miss a little of Yato's silliness, but the manga is so much more nuanced. 9/10 stars, would recommend.

I've heard so much praise for this series, and I can see why. Highly underrated, even for just reading the first volume. Granted, I do read a lot of stories similar to this in manga, but that's aside the point. This story is off to a great start. It's clever and exciting, has me wanting to read more about the characters! The stray god is hilarious and the girl has some funny quirks, too, also very cute! Can't wait to read more and even watch the series, finally!

Loved the anime, so here I am...

Heard of Noragami a few years ago but never got round to reading/watching it. Yato is really cocky god who get put down a few pegs from the get go when his shinki decides to bounce after they help a girl who was getting bullied. He then bumps into a girl called Hiyori and from there the main story begins and so far its hilarious. I wish I read this a few years ago but hey ho better late than never.

The story itself isn't all that original, BUT it's how it's told. The plot is strong and cohesive, the artwork is amazing. It's comical and serious. But my absolute favorite aspect are the end of volume reviews. I'm not sure if it is exclusive to the version I read, but after each volume it would break down unfamiliar concepts and translation choices! I have never seen that done before and it made the read so much smoother plus you learn so much about Japanese culture this way. I wish every manga & anime could afford to do this, it makes a world of difference.
