Large parts of it were pretty confusing, seemingly without any purpose. The big plot reveal fell flat for me.

Can’t say I’ll revisit this one, but I did enjoy the spooky vibe and it was an entertaining read.

"The year before September had insisted--despite Sheela's protestations--on merging their birthdays and now September 5 was a day for both of them, with two cakes, double presents, ribbons wound into their hair."

I think this book was very beautifully written, but I’m just not that into literally horror or thriller and I found I wasn’t connecting to the story.
If you read the summary and think it sounds good, I would still encourage you to try it.

2.5. Not my style at all. Far too much effort put into sounding writerly and poetic. This book was brimming with pretentious, nonsensical, giggle-inducing descriptions such as ‘September’s anger was breaking out of her face, like shards of wood.’ Characters spoke like nobody (i.e. a mother who describes her depression to her two young daughters as being the colour of ‘rust and leather’).
How relatable. :-|
Not one for me!
