Not his usual style. Less frantic, less tongue in cheek, disappointing ending.

Finally, the end.
Finally, answers...hah, you wish!

I loved this book far better than the previous two. It tied together nicely with the first one. It brought things as close to a circle as it could, given the Mish Mash state of things.

I've enjoyed reading Douglas Adams whenever I've picked one of the 5 books. I've not been consistent, I've had huge gaps in between, and still never felt the need of flipping the last pages of the previous books. During a time when nothing on Earth makes any sense or brings any joy, reading about the galaxy has made me look at sci-fi in a whole new way. Of course now my expectations are high, and my benchmark is Adams, which is almost fair given how so many people have tried to copy his style.

I loved Arthur's storyline especially in this book, we finally got a love story. The random disappearance of Fenchurch without any closure was frustrating, but it do be like that sometimes, and was aptly depicted.

And we finally got to hear Trillians's voice more! An entire backstory! It gave me a whole different level of thrill. During the chapters that only focused on Tricia, I was overjoyed at every sentence, every inner thought of hers. Definitely going to see if there are spin-offs dedicated to her, because my girl didn't get the ending she deserved. A lot of characters didn't, and that's a shame. It could have easily been managed, and would have made the book less of a drag towards the end.

Even though every book had this random jump to an entire different situations while leaving us on a cliffhanger about the previous situation in the previous chapter, I didn't mind that structure so much in this one. Because exciting and mostly comprehensible things were happening everywhere.

This is actually the first series of books I've been able to read after Harry Potter, and I'm immensely proud of myself. Though I won't be worshipping this one as much as I did that, mostly because I'm not a teenager anymore and also have stopped finding heroes in authors, I'm definitely going to return to this again, just for the laughs and beauty of writing.

Maybe the best written of the series, though not as comedic
adventurous dark funny sad slow-paced

This is the longest of the Hitchhiker books, and yet it still only feels like half or 2/3rds of a book. Maybe that was meant to be part of the joke? Like I had this feeling with some of the previous novels but it was aided by the fact that there *was* more books to read afterwards. This one is just, *the end*. And it kinda sucks! Maybe I'll actually get around to reading the official and unofficial sequels, see if they help smooth things out at all.

Just as good reading it for the 20th time. I actually caught two bits of humor that had skipped me on past readings.

Yes, it is the weakest of the 5 books, but it's still better than 99% of what's out there.

No, it is not a standalone read. Yes, you should have read the other 4 before tackling this one.
