Five books…five books for the series to end how it did… he could have done better.

Not much more to say here than already said by others. A bit of a disappointing end to the series - for various reasons such as "going through a bad period in his life".

I liked it better than the last one, though I missed Zaphod and Marvin. Kind of depressing, though. Overall felt like something was missing, that Adams was kind of just giving up. Even so, I enjoyed it. Douglas Adams on an off day could still beat most other writers any day.

This was such a lovely end to this trilogy of five. I wasn’t a huge fan of the previous book and the shift in tone/added romance, so when I started this one and realized that wouldn’t be present, I was so happy.

I missed some characters, and wasn’t necessarily attached to the new characters as they had only been introduced in this final book, but overall I still loved it and I may be in the minority in my immense enjoyment of the ending. I couldn’t think of a better way to end this series than with painfully ironic bleak humor.

There's hard sci-fi with its often tedious exposition, space opera with its hand-waving magic tech, and then there's Douglas Adams merrily riffing off every idea there is with boundless energy and humour. The characters are preposterous but memorable, and the scenarios are mind-bending and ridiculous. The Guide itself plays the straight man, deadpan adding equally ridiculous ideas.
Quality and enjoyability continue to drop off a bit as the end of the 'trilogy' is reached, but there's still lots to love.

The last book in the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy, a return to form for Douglas Adams, and all told, my favorite volume in the series. Perfect blend of humor, pathos, philosophy, and finishes with a bang.
