dark funny sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

General Thoughts: It was unexpected to be starting with a female MC - and not Arthur or Ford …

Star Rating: 4.0
Here’s Why
Characters: 3/5 - I liked our characters, it just felt like the new ones didn’t add that much to the story.
Atmosphere/Setting: 4/5 - Atmosphere and setting were good, as always. I just would have liked a little bit more distinction between new places, some of them felt very much the same. (or maybe that’s just a me thing!)
Writing Style: 5/5 - I always love Adams’ prose and writing style.
Plot: 3/5 - It felt much more character driven, less about the plot. Not even really sure what the whole plot was…
Intrigue: 5/5 - I was intrigued the entire time.
Logic: 3/5 - There were just some things that didn’t make as logical sense as I’ve gotten in the other books.
Enjoyment: 4/5 - I always enjoy Douglas Adams’ books, but this one I kept thinking did we really need this??
Audiobook Narrator: 5/5 - Martin Freeman continues to nail his narration.
Total: 32/8 = 4.0

This book really upsets me but I laugh throughout it nonetheless.

FIRST OF ALL; this book is a mess: whats with the continuity? Throughout the book i often found myself lost in the plot, and secondly: what the hell is going on? What happened with Arthur, Ford, Trillian - why are’t we continuing with the plot established a book ago? This was just painful to read and to catch up with character’s stories.

The first three books in the series are iconic and are considered as the best work of Adams, the forth book I also like (even though it isn't as good as the original ones) but the last one, lord have mercy!

I just could not force myself to finish this book (and trust me, I've tried - in fact, I tried three times: I tried by reading in English, then in my mother tongue - Croatian, and, at last, I tried to listen an audio book version).

I wont give it one star (yet!), I only give one stars to books I think that they are a-crime-against-literature-and-the-people-who-have-written-them-should-reconsider-their-life.

Those are my main thoughts without going into unnecessary details.

One day, I do hope to finish this when I will be much older and my patience will be better.
adventurous funny

Even a weaker book in this series is still fun!

I didn’t finish it; there’s much in Adams’s other works that’s funny, charming, lovely, etc. but there’s nothing in this particular book that I want to know about. Sorry to be that guy, but I just no longer care. I feel like the first book is perfect as it is, and with each new volume the quality (and my interest) goes downhill. I didn’t read this book when it was first published and I’m glad- this all sounds far more critical than I mean it to. I just don’t care for the last parts of the series.

I agree with several other reviews that this was an odd book since it retconned the 4th book (at the very least). I liked the ending of this book, but the ending of the 4th book makes for a better (or maybe lighter?) series as a whole.

Just became disinterested and wanted to listen to a different series.
