I realize that this wasn't intended to be the last book in the series. And hey, maybe I was piling on the Douglas Adams a little thick in the past couple of days. But overall, this book left me a little unsatisfied. I think for me the series started to fall apart when the earth started coming back in different versions. I tried to understand the part about the Plural sector, but I failed somehow. Most things I can take from Douglas Adams, but he might have pushed it a little far with this one.

Somewhere in a parallel universe, Douglas Adams's immensely clever, imaginative, and hilarious books also include a satisfying plot and characters that you can care about and enjoy caring about. Until trans-dimensional publishing becomes a thing, we are stuck with five "pretty fun" books that will delight and then disappoint. It seems sacrilegious to criticize something so amazing, but there it is-- mostly harmless. I love what Adams accomplished, but a second later it fills me with longing. Advice: Read the first three, skip the last two.

Not the best in the Trilogy, but a very fitting end to our heroes' outer space adventures.

I am decidedly against the way this book ends, and much prefer the alternate ending created for the 2005 radio version (which I'm sure made Adams roll around in his grave not a little, but I don't care). Also, I miss Fenchurch, and Random is a total shit.
